Too many bananas for my peanut :( (kinda gross)

She's super constipated and has labored over three tiny, firm poos today (normally she has one not-so-firm big one every other day.)  Her bum is pretty red and has some small sores on the skin on either side of the top of her crack.  I slathered her in CJ's BUTTer, stuck her in a fitted with wool footies so her butt can breathe (after naked time, of course) and DH is picking up pears and prunes after work.  Any other favorite tips to help?  I have some Aveeno oatmeal bath and am wondering if that would help.

  • Um, I'm not too much of a help, but C and I are in the same boat, the downside of Zofran {tmi, I'm sure}/ Except she'll probably have relief far before me :-) Prunes should do the trick.

You could also try moving her legs, like a bicycle motion. My aunt used to do that to my cousin and it worked almost every time.

Good luck! I hope she gets everything worked out soon!!!

Max doesn't have a problem with constipation, by any means, but we still keep pureed prunes on hand for his occasional irregularity. Diluted prune, pear, or apple juice seems to work well too. Cut out any dairy until she poos as well.

Word of caution: Careful with the warm bath. We have had many code browns in our house. Warm baths seem to do the trick a little too well after prunes and juice! Stick out tongue

  • aw, poor baby. We ran into this. I just cuddled DD a lot whenever she tried to poo & cried because it hard.  And stopped all feeding except nursing & rice cereal and a day later she felt better. GL

  • We have had similar issues with bananas. Diluted prune juice is about the only thing that works for my DS. We do 1 oz prune juice, 1 oz water to start, then the same again later in the day if there isn't any progress. You can also try warm baths, bicycling her legs, or taking her temp with a rectal thermometer. Food that are helpful besides prunes are, pears, peaches, plums, and things with fiber like green beans. I hope that helps, I know constipation for my little guys is awful and he just screams in pain, hopefully Charlie will get through it quickly.  Also you can try some Aquaphor on the tush, it always works for us. Smile Good luck!
  • I don't have any new advice, but I hope little C has it all worked out soon!

As gross as it is, this is what we would have to resort to.  Not fun to clean up but effective. We dealt with major constipation issues with M.  Not fun.  Good luck!

  • Well I typed a response last night and clicked post but I guess it timed out. :p  Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!  She loved the prunes (weirdo) and within a minute of finishing them pooped again...then this morning had a big but still firm one, but hopefully we're past the hump.  I've kept her in wool all night and today and her booty is looking much better.  Fingers crossed all is back to normal soon!
