So we got the Graco Nautilis 3 in 1 for Christmas and thanks to this board here realized it doesn't do rear facing (I don't know how I missed that!)  What are your fav rear facing?

I second this. The seat is amazing. It goes up to 40 lbs rear facing, and it is so easy to install and uninstall. It is also really inexpensive. We love this seat, and we will be getting a second one when we have to get another car!

  • We also have the Evenflo Triumph Advance.  We've been using it for about a month now and really like it.
  • We have the Recaro Como G2 and have been using it RF for the past 4-5 months.  We like it for the most part, although it's pretty big, so it makes it somewhat hard to get DS in/out of the car, but if you have a bigger vehicle that wouldn't be a problem.  The best part about it is it's convertible and can be both RF/FF and the weight limit is 70 lbs, so we're planning on using it for a LONG time :)

  • We have the Evenflo Triumph too.  I'm not in love with the mechanism for loosening the straps, but otherwise I really like it.
  • We have the Recaro Signo G2 and we love, love, love it!

One thing to keep in mind about car seats that grow with your little one... they have an expiration - usually 6 years. So, while our car seat has a forward facing weight limit of 70 lbs, we will most likely reach the expiration of the car seat before Ella hits 70 lbs (she is 2 1/2 and 28 lbs).

While we are here in Seattle, my Mom bought the Alpha Omega Elite car seat for the girls. We have also borrowed the chicco infant seat (which is what we have at home for Thea), the Britax Boulevard, the Evenflo Triumph, and another Alpha something car seat. The differences (to me) are...

The Recaro sits really high, so it can be difficult to see around rear facing. But, Ella can see out the windows.

The Recaro has a narrower base, so it takes up less room, But, while Ella is comfortable in the seat, she is a peanut. It might not be as comfortable for others.

I feel like the fabric of the Recaro and the padding is much more comfortable then the above mentioned seats.

It is right there with Britax in terms of adjustable harness, ease of installation (you don't have to thread/unthread straps or the latch system to turn the car seat, make height adjustments).

But this is what I have noticed the most, and what makes me want to buy another Recaro - every time Ella fell asleep in the other car seats her head bobbles all over the place, or hangs down, chin on her chest. The Recaro has these huge side impact protection wings that she is able to rest her head on when she sleeps.

  • I have the Fisher Price Safe Voyage. They dont make it anymore but its essientally the Britax marathon. My warrenty is even through britax so not sure what the deal is there. Eli has been in it since he was 6 months. We are only now looking to get him a booster seat. And only cause he is at the top slot for the shoulder harnesses and they are starting to dip below the shoulder level. according to the manual they should be at or slightly above when rear facing. The weight limit goes to 55 pounds but he is only 35 and the height was supposed to go higher but I cant imagine how with the shoulder harness where it is. Eli isnt even all that tall, 41 inches. I have been very happy with it and am glad to have gotten 4 years out of it for use so not to many complaints.

We love our recaro too - it fit our car better than the britax. (clearance to the front seat as well as side to side) Very easy to use and seems fairly comfortable.  We haven't tried the fit of the latest generation recaro or britax because we got this a year ago, before the new ones came out.
