So I have to know where I want to eat at Disney NOW?

We are planning our first Disney vacation w/kids in late June. Our boys will be 2 & 5 at the time of the trip. I actually wasn't quite ready to embark on the whole Disney experience yet, but BIL proposed a big family road trip, so we are taking advantage of the opportunity now. We are doing 3 nights, 2 days in Disney.

Anyhow, SIL has been making all the reservations for  us. We are staying at the Polynesian, which I am excited about. But she told us we need to decide where we want to eat now because places book up fast. Seriously? How the heck do I know that now? I guess we will pick places and build our days around that. Thoughts or suggestions? We are primarily interested in Magic Kingdom, Epcot and possibly Animal Kingdom.

  • Isn't it ridiculous? I'm going in the fall, and I feel as if it's more work than anything so far.

  • Are you looking to do character meals?  If so, we had to book 180 days out. We liked Crystal Palace, the Pooh Characters buffet, the princess breakfast, Chef Mickeys at the contemporary, Animal Kingdom has good meals at the Tusker House I believe.
  • I know it is crazy, but if u don't you will end up eating too much counter food and IMO it was nasty!

  • if you have girls, you have to do the dinner or lunch at the castle, its called cinderella's royal table. the sci-fi dine in theater at mgm is great for kids. the tables are 1950s era cars it is like being at the drive-in, cartoons play all through dinner. the food is also a kid pleaser, fries, milkshakes, cheesesteaks, etc. the crystal palace is a winnie the pooh character meal which is really good at breakfast.
No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

  • Just FYI you can bring your own food and snacks in so you don't have to do a sit down meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We prefer to bring sandwiches and eat one meal on the go since my kids could care less about a sit down meal and it's gets a bit expensive. Plus a meal can take an hour and my kids would prefer to be playing rather be playing/riding rides rather than sitting at a table.

  • Oh that's true, I forgot we brought in a lot of snacks and drinks and it really helped!

  • The Luau dinner show at the poly is really good! I love eating at the castle too. O'hana's at the poly is awesome! My fav place to stay is the Poly!
  • O'hana at the Polynesian is delicious.  Its a meal served family style.

We did the princess breakfast at Epcot (can't remember the name of the place) but we were overall pretty impressed, and it was less expensive than the Magic Kingdom Castle breakfast with the princesses.  (just read you have boys, so this might not interest you in the least...)

I've heard good things about Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary hotel (right along the monorail).

Our biggest problem in the past in regards to eating is that you just can't always find things in the park----like we've just walked and walked, and gotten disappointed, wanting something different than the counter service options.... either have a plan, or don't wait til you're too hungry to eat, otherwise if you're anything like us, you'll end up crabby, hungry and nothing will sound good to you.  If that makes any sense.
