EPing & not STTN

DS is 4 months today & still not sttn. We have had a rare night here & there where he will go 4 or 5 hours but it is still usually every 3 hours at best. I ep & he usually takes 4-5oz every 3 hours. Any thoughts or suggestions to getting him to sleep a little bit longer at night? I should mention that he won't take more during the day & he does wake up crying @ night & will take the whole bottle. Tia

Re: EPing & not STTN

  • I'm sorry, but It will come with age. There isn't much you can do besides CIO, which he is still much too young for. The amount he's eating every 24 hours seems perfect, and you don't want to force him to eat more at one sitting- this stretches his stomach unnaturally and can potentially lead to eating issues later in life.  I EPed and DD didn't STTN until 14 months old...I do have friends that swore by the EASY method from the Baby Whisperer book. The system of eat, awake, sleep, "you time", basically shows that babies shouldn't sleep immediately following food, lest they come to expect food in order to fall asleep again. Interesting thought, but not one I was ever able to try. Good luck!

  • my little guys is 2m and we EP but we found a nice routine to get him to sleep 6+hrs a night, I even have had the rare 7-8hrs. Before his 10pm bottle he gets a nice warm relaxing bath, then I rub some lavender aveeno baby lotion on his feet/legs before his pj's go on. He'll have his bottle, gets a kiss from his dad and I then it's off to sleep.

  • Where does he sleep? My son slept in our room until he was about 5 months but hubby and I would wake him just by rolling over and he would have to nurse back to sleep, about 5-6 times a night. When I moved him to the nursery he started only waking up 1-2 times a night. If he is in another room, maybe he needs the security of being near mommy and would sleep better in your room...or perhaps not.
