Ok forgive me for my stupidity. But I seem to be getting mixed responses from family about what month I am pregnant. I mean there are 10 months to a pregnancy technically with how they calculate it. 40 weeks, 4 weeks to a month=10 months. Now I am 21 weeks pregnant. 4 weeks=1 month, 5-8 weeks=2 month, 9-12 weeks=3 month, 13-16=4 month, 17-20=5 months. So that would mean I am in the beginning of my 6 month, am I right? So when people ask me how many months I am, my response is 6 months. But yet my fiance and some people in my family tell me I'm 5 and I've even been told 4. Even when I explain my thinking of calculating it out. Please explain to me because it is making me feel QUITE dumb. And also make me feel better that someone else has weird confusion about this and that I'm not alone ![]()
Re: Very dumb question about calculating months
Actually on average each month has 4.33 weeks, so you could divid your week by 4.33 and get a more accurate number.
So I am (just about) 20 weeks, I would be 4.6 months.

I know exactly what you mean. Here is what the book I got from Dr says:
1st month 0-6 weeks
2nd month 6-10 weeks
3rd month 10-14 weeks
4th month 14-19 weeks
5th month 19-24 weeks
6th month 24-28 weeks
7th month 28-32 weeks
8th month 32-36 weeks
9th month 36-40 weeks
Hope this helps.
Thank you and OP b/c I had no clue either!

This!
this. you aren't 6 months pregnant until the END of 6 months. Before that you're 5 months, 5.5 months, etc.
True, I think I'm just eager to be further along than I am
I'm right where you are, yet I calculated 5 months (20 weeks divided by 4weeks/month = 5 months) HOWEVER, there's a whole system that makes no sense to me! What to Expect When You're Expecting had me at 5 months 2 weeks ago...there's a website that spells it out for you, but I disagree with it.
So...I tell people I'm 5 months (21 weeks now) and when I'm 24 weeks, I'll tell them I'm 6 months.
I don't think it's a dumb question at all. This is something I go by and visit often.

I thought about this a lot and I figured this was the BEST way to look at it.
They calculated my EDD based on the first day of my last menstrual period.
This was 10/26. So now on 3/26 I was 5 months exactly. This would mean that if pregnancy was exactly 9 months I would have the baby on 7/26. Which is pretty close to my EDD of 8/2.
Hope this helps!
PS- So now I tell people I am just over 5 months. Around 4/13 I will say I am 5 and 1/2.
