Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Need sleep advice.

DD is 5 months old.  She sleeps worse now than she did when she was a newborn.  She goes down at 7pm and between 2-3 hours later she is up.  That continues for the rest of the night but it's between 1-2 hours that she's up.

She won't just take a paci and go back to sleep, she wants to eat.  She eats plenty during the day.  She was getting solids but we stopped because her ezcema started getting bad.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get her to sleep even an hour longer?!  I don't want to do CIO.  It's not for us and DD#1 sleeps in the room right next to DD#2 and our walls are paper thin.  I dont' want to end up waking her up as well.

Re: Need sleep advice.

  • I have nothing helpful, but just wanted to say that we're in the exact same situation. DS has never slept well, but it's been insanely worse this last week, he will only sleep 20-45 minutes at a time all night. And, where he used to eat only once at night, he is now eating 3 or more times.

We've thought about starting solids, but it's important to me for a variety of reasons to wait until 6 months. We may do some progressive waiting, but also not until 6 months.

So, yeah, this sucks and I have no idea what to do, but I hope someone has a magical answer for us. I hope it helps to know you're not alone, and the only things that seem to help me are coffee and coming up with a plan with DH to share the night, or at least find a way for me to get some sleep during the day. Good luck, I really hope this phase passes quickly for both of us!

  • I'm also experiencing the same thing but haven't found any solutions. My DD used to wake only once to eat between 10pm-10am, not she wakes and needs attention 7+ times as well as needs to eat 3 times during that same time period. Hopefully someone will have a good suggestion.

  • I just wanted to say that we are on week 3 of what you are describing. DD sleep has gone from okay to shiit. She goes down at 7 or 8 and is up every hour from then on until she's up for the day.

We co-sleep so we can't really just let her CIO. Her bad sleep did seem to coincide with starting solids so I'm thinking we may stop solids for a couple weeks and see if her sleep improves. She's a great napper, just a terrible night sleeper.

We even started swaddling her to see if that would help. We never swaddled before that. No help. It's awful!

  • Same boat here (I posted about it a few night ago)....but mine is due to pacifier dependence (I'm 99.9% sure). She slept through the night from 6 weeks until I went back to work (2 months ago!!!), which was when the babysitter introduced her to the pacifier. Sorry I don't have any good advice...just know you are not alone! P.S. My DD is a crappy napper and a crappy night sleeper :(
  • This is happening to us too but DD is 3 months old. She is the worst sleeper!! We haven't moved her to her crib yet so I was blaming that....she is in the pack n play in our room. Suggestions please!!!!

  • Same for me too... LO is 5 months old.. He ase been sleeping through the night since 3 months old! With NO feedings.. Average about 8 hrs a night.. wake up at 7 am feed then back to sleep for another hour to 1.5 hrs....  It was a beautiful thing....

Hes been on solids for over a month now (hes a big boy) It was great until about 2 wks ago) Since then I have not slept a wink!!!! Almost every hour on the hour hes up.. cries like you can't believe, then wants to play and is laughing/smiling.. From a sounds sleep... I dont get it!

Mommy needs sleep pleeease!  Wondering if it might be teeth? Doesnt look like it...?

  • This is so us.  We finally gave up after 5 months of trying and he is in bed with us now.  Doesn't sleep perfectly, but at least I'm not up 10 times a night!
