Two Under 2

I bet you have your hands full - kind of a poll

Having twins, I hear this almost everywhere I go.  Granted I have 3 kids and DS1 was 27m when the twins were born, but I'm wondering how much "multiples" effects this question.  Everyone on the multiples board also hears this constantly.  For those that have 2 close in age, how often do you hear this?  Have you ever heard it?  What's really so different in the "public's" eye about having 2 kids or having twins?

People always say "you must be busy!". My kids are 16 months apart. People always ask how old are they? Mostly insinuating "you're crazy to have them so close in age!".

  • I hear a lot.

I also get comments on how have two only 1 year apart must be harder than twins, which I doubt.

  • I've heard it a few times and baby number 2 isn't even here yet lol

  • Honestly, I dont know whats the difference. I hear it too and #2 isnt even here yet. People look at  my son and I and ask how old then stare at my belly and say your going to have your hands full. I usually hear it from really older people like senior citizens who kids are obviously already grown so I just take their comments and keep going or I hear it from people who dont have any kids and they just dont understand..
  • I've got that and I'm only 7 weeks pregnant with #2! The ONLY response I've gotten in regards to my second pregnancy is "You are going to be soo busy!!" or "That is just CRAZY to have them so close together!!"

I want to say... "Thanks for the encouragement!" Lol, people some times.

  • Yep - we get that a lot. Esp when I am carrying a baby and chasing after a toddler. I'm sure it looks insane
  • Well, having "been there, done that" for both of these situations since my first two daughters are 16 months apart, I have to say that twins bring a whole different class of comments, and the "You have your hands full" chats. It's like people just *have* to stop and talk to you when you're pushing a double stroller with twins, while pushing a double stroller with 2 under 2 is a little more of a common sight.

Then again, these days, I'm usually put with all four girls and my pregnant belly, and the comments I get now make "You have your hands full" seem very tame ;)

Your siggy is so cute! I showed it to my 6mo and he smiled and laughed. I can't believe he likes girls already!

  • Yup, I hear this all the time, especially when I'm wearing my DD and balancing DS on my hip. :)

I generally respond "yes, both literally and figuratively!" or "yes, and it's wonderful. Better to have my hands full than empty".  :)

I love this response! I'm going to have to use that since I hear that comment a lot!

I hear it A LOT.  Especially once my third pregnancy became obvious.  But I was still hearing it even before then.

  • I hear it quite a bit as well.  Usually it comes when a person is allowing me to go in front of them or they are waiting to open a door for me.  It's always been a positive comment in these situations in my mind.  But, it often is followed by wondering how far apart they are in age.

    Exactly this!
  • I do hear this everywhere I go but people also think they are twins b/c DS2 weighed in at a whopping 23 lbs at his 6 month appt.  He's huge!!!  DS1 is about 27 lbs and maybe 4 inches taller than his little brother!

  • I hear "bet you didn't do THAT on purpose"

And yes....chaps my a$$ when people say that.  (mostly because they're right!!) :p

  • I hate any negative comments because we fought so hard (IF) to have our boys, and Gwen was such a welcome and exciting surprise. No we did not plan this, but I would not change it either!

We hope to have 2u2 again someday!

Mine will be 11 months 22 days apart =) I'm excited, my sister and I were 13 months apart and we loved it. Sure, the first year or 2 may be hard.. but at least we don't have to go back to the baby stage! Unless you plan to have more =)

  • Having gone out with a twin mom whose kids are 2 days older than DS, I will say that it seems to be the double stroller that attracts attention (and when we each have 2 kids, the 2 double strollers lol) although maybe she looks friendlier because I don't get nearly as many comments or at least weird comments, mainly just stares.
  • I get those comments all the time, but I have four.  I think the comments started when I was pg with #3 though, not so much when I just had the two under two.

  • I hear it a lot... more so now that I am pg with #3.  But even now whenever someone asks me how old my kids are and I tell them I get 'wow you are busy!'  and stuff like that... now with the third I get similar comments and I get asked if it was on purpose or a mistake...nice.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but is there ANYONE out there that doesn't think you are crazy for having 5?  I don't have any twins, and (at least for me) it's rare to get a positive response when I say "this is my 5th"

  • I hear it a lot. They are 18 months apart. Some people ask if they are twins....

Most people say it sweetly, others says it in shock. I tell them I like to have my hands full, I like being busy.
