Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Anyone's LO getting a bald spot (on back of head) from RnP?

DD has a bald spot where it appears that the back of her head rubs against the RnP... is this happening to anyone else's LO? If so how can you "fix" or avoid this?

  • It's what happens, regardless of where they sleep.  Totally normal.  Their hair is so fine that it just breaks off from the rubbing.  No way to avoid it.

  • We use the RnP and it had started happening before we even bought it. Ds has a bald spot on the back of his head from me holding him... not from laying on a flat surface.

  • Babies go bald a lot, it's a fact of life. It'll grow back, in the mean time it's fun determining day to day which celebrity do your LO has as they bald, it's mostly old people, but still fun. My LO has consistently been rocking a Mr T thing with his hair.

  • Other people have already said this, but most babies get a bald spot on the back of their head.  That spot rubs against everything!  The car seat, crib/bassinet/cradle/RnP, swing, bouncer, floor, etc.  My LO was breech and her head is a lot more rounded at the back than a normal baby, so she NEVER lays on the back of her head.  I imagine the sides of her head will go bald, lol!

This exactly. The RnP is not the root cause of a bald spot.

  • I was so bummed the day I took the fitted sheet off DD's bassinet and discovered it was covered in fine hairs from her head!  She's got two sparse spots on the back of her head.  We're now trying to figure out what colour and texture her hair will be when it comes back in...

This. Mine is getting it and sleeps in her crib. My best friends DD had hers start to grow back about 5 months or so once she started sleeping on her tummy

  • DS doesn't sleep in the RnP, and sleeps on his yummy at night, and he's still getting the bald spot! The only time anything is really against his head there is when he's in his bouncer, which totals maybe 1 hour per day - still happens!

  • My LO is bald anyway, but I've seen bald spots in kids no matter where they sleep--it's all for the same reason that babies can develop flat spots: sleeping on the same spot of their head too much. During the day, make sure to give your LO plenty of opportunities to NOT be on that spot of his head. You won't rid of the bald spot fast, but it'll help
