Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What's the Longest you've Spent Away from your LO and how old were they?

I'm going to a wedding when my baby will be just over 7 weeks and I'm planning on having my cousin, who is a nurse, babysit.  I'm already having anxiety about this because she will be the first person other than DH to watch my LO.  What is the longest amount of time you have spent away from your LO and how old were they? TIA!

  • He is 9 weeks and I haven't spent any time away from him. I was trying to plan a trip to Maryland but leaving for 5 days gave me too much anxiety even though he would be with DH.

  • I left DD with my parents overnight when she was 6 weeks old.

  • Are you planning on leaving your LO for days or just for a couple of hours?  I've left my LO with my mom for a few hours, but I wouldn't be comfortable leaving her for a day or more at this point (she's only 3 1/2 weeks old).  I'm breastfeeding too so that would make it harder.  If I was formula feeding and she was a little older, I wouldn't stress about leaving her for a day or two.  Good luck with your decision!

  • I've been away for about 3 hours but he was with DH. He's never been away from both of us. We don't have much family near by though.

  • I would only be away for 3-4 hours and minutes away from my cousin's house.  I do BF and pump enough to have some milk on reserve as well as formula to back it up (which she has had before).

The baby will probably sleep most of the time you're gone anyway, so don't stress it! Go to the wedding and enjoy.

Go, have fun. I left DD with my mom while I was at the dentist getting a crown. That took a couple of hours. At least you'll be having a good time while away from your LO.

  • For 48 hours when he was 4 and 5 days old.  I got put back in the hospital shortly after we were discharged due to some complications.

  • We're going to a wedding when baby is 7 weeks as well. Both kids will stay with some friends for a fw hours. I plan to pump between the wedding and reception. DS#1 was about 6 weeks the first time we left him with a babysitter. I was anxious, but everything was fine. After the first time I was ok with leaving him. It will be fine, try to enjoy yourself!

  • So far just a full work day to go to a job fair when DS was 2 mos. It was alright. I'm about to go back to to work...I know I'm going to lose it.

  • My first night away from LO was when she was 3weeks old. She stayed the night with my aunt. The reason being was my FIL had passed away and we were having his funeral and it was pretty chilly and it sprinkled a bit so i didn't want to get her sick. Other than i wouldn't have left her over night but it was really helpful. That was such an emotional day.

  • We've spent two separate days away from her (~8ish hours), once at 1 month and again at 6 weeks.

When she is 8 weeks we will be spending a weekend away from her.

  • 9.5 hours and she was 9 weeks old. It was when I went back to work and includes an hour of driving time.

  • we will be leaving dd when she is just shy of eight weeks for a wedding. i think we will be leaving her overnight bc the wedding is an hour away. i am nervous but dd will be with mil so she will be in good hands.
  • We have a sitter coming tomorrow night so we can go out for our anniversary. It'll be the first time I've left him with anyone other than DH. We're only going for dinner and we'll be at a restaurant that's a couple of blocks away from our house. I think I'll probably make it about two hours. Man, I wish our sitter was a nurse...

  • I have left DS with my parents for 2.5 hours and I was totally distracted the entire time I was away from him! I EBF right now, but in a couple of weeks I am going to introduce a bottle of BM so that I can go out once in a while! I am excited for that day, but I think that I will be a mess!

  • 5 hours. he was 6w1d and it was just last night for a friend's surprise party. I was nervous at first, but felt much better once I got to where I was going. Talking and enjoying myself helped take my mind off wondering about every little move he was making at home. I had originally planned on b eing gone only 3 hours, but the extra 2 were much needed and I had a great time :)
