Jeans - what panel is best?

Getting around to ordering some jeans from the GAP.  Not sure which panel would be the best/most comfy??   Are there pros/cons to the different ones?  Since the jeans are expensive i only am going to get two pairs...suggestions??    Thanks!!

Re: Jeans - what panel is best?

  • This is such a good question!

I have both. I'm 20 weeks and I wear the high panel more often because they stay in place and are so comfortable!!! The low panel fall off quite a bit because I haven't grown in the legs or butt yet. I also ordered the low panel from Old Navy in my regular size and found they run really really big!

The high panel pants I got from Motherhood Maternity are fantasitc!

    Good luck!

  • I vote for the full panel. Nothing would stay up except the full panel towards the end of my last pregnancy. I am wearing full panel right now except I just roll the panel down to make it fit more comfortably. BTW...I love GAP maternity jeans but I agree they are way too spendy!

  • I only like the full panel, hate the others, so it really is personal preference.

  • I am so with you. I just bought some this week. A low panel from Old Navy that is great until I move then I feel like my crack is showing. I also got a full panel from Motherhood (cha-ching! Expensive) and though they feel more stable, I am still getting sag in the butt and crotch. Hopefully, this will change as I expand. (words I never thought I'd say!)

  • I would say for sure do either full panel or low...but nothing in the middle. I bought a pair of khakis from Old Navy that are elastic waist and sit right in the middle of my stomache. They are horribly uncomfortable and hurt. I wore them 2 or 3 times and I can't do it anymore. I definately LOVE the full panel. So comfy!

  • I live in Houston and the idea of a panel across my belly now (we're already in the 80s and 90s temperature wise) or later in the summer makes me break into an instant sweat.  I'm currently wearing a low rise with an elastic waist - totally comfortable.  They may not work for my entire pregnancy, but I'm not planning on wearing a lot of jeans during the summer months anyway as I'll either be in a swimsuit or a sundress.

I have 3 pairs of pants that are full panel and they are annoying as hell.  I have a pair of jeans from ON that are no panel, just have an "extender" on the waist, like stretch pants.  They are so much more comfortable.  I just feel like I'm always fixing the panel in my other pants.

this. I love the no panel jeans from ON.  I can still tuck my shirt in and wear a belt.

With the panel or the elastic band jeans, if I stick my hands in my pockets, the jeans start to fall off.

  • I liked the elastic band or low panel one... the full panel ones drove me NUTS... I DID NOT want anything constraining my belly those last few months!

  • I LOVE the secret fit high panel skinny jeans I got from Motherhood. They weren't too expensive, about $35, a little more than I usually spend on jeans but not much. They are so comfy I'd wear them without being pregnant!
  • I got the secret fit full panel jeans from motherhood and while they are cute, I am constantly hiking them up.  I roll the panel down right now because my bump is still pretty small.  In comparison I love the low elastic waist no panel jeans I got from Old Navy.  They fit perfect right now and I don't slip down!  I think by the mid to end of pregnancy I will not be wanting to wear jeans at all in the summer heat anyway.
  • I think it is all about preference.  A friend told me that she hated full panel and to not get them, so my first couple pairs were the regular waist.  But I've discovered I actually like the full panel the best.

I agree with this!  It's all about preference.

A friend of mine swore by the full panel, but I personally prefer the low panel type.  I don't like anything being that high up on my belly.  I find it really uncomfortable.  But my absolute favorite kind of pants to wear around the house are just strechy ones, like the kind you wear when you work out.  All of my normal stretchy pants fit up to the end of my last pregnancy because they fit low on the hips.

If I were you I would just try on a few pairs and see what is more comfortable for you.  Then go from there.

  • I don't know, I only wore (and liked) the low panel. Couldn't stand the full one.

Agree!  I also bought Old Navy's "full panel" jeans, but found that the panel doesn't go up high enough, so they're super uncomfortable.  The MM jeans were worth the extra money.

  • just a lurker.  Sorry but I guess I'm just feeling nostalgic for my pregnancy.  I actually work for gap baby/maternity.  I loved the no panel all the way through month 8 but I carried really high, even after dropping.  Low carriers and/or full figured ladies love our full panel. high and slim prefer the demi panel.  most of the jeans stretch out one size difference.  I could wear the wide leg and long and lean in my pre-pregnancy size but had to size up in the sexy boot & skinnys.  But I am hourglassy- with big hips and thighs.  Honestly, the skinnys made me look like an ice cream cone with two cherries on top.  I recommend just getting enough to get you by for now since you may prefer a different style later, but keep in mind these will probably be your post-partum pants too.  LO's almost 6 months and I'm still wearing this stuff.   (I can get the pre-preg jeans on, I just have costco sized muffin top with em and nobody needs to see that). :).
  • I got the demi-panel long & lean jeans from the Gap; I wear 'em constantly.  I do have to tug them up so that they don't sit in the middle of my belly.  I don't know how they'll work out later when I get big.  My SIL still wears gap demi panel jeans & she's in her 3rd tri--she just wears them very low.  Right now they're having a 25% off sale if you buy online; I'd take advantage of that since they are kinda pricey.
  • Thanks for all the info ladies!!  Guess its time to go try em on and see what works!
