all i see is dh ds dl ??What is up with all these abbreviations? what are they?? and why cant you just say, my son, my daughter, husband. whatever they may mean???
Mostly the abbreviations are used for words that you use over and over again. And I honestly prefer to type EWCM instead of egg white cervical mucus and CP instead of cervical position, for example. It does save time if you are an active poster.
Haha yea...there's enough for us to keep straight as it is!! I thought I was up to date on my computer lingo, guess mommy computer lingo is a little different!!
I somewhat agree on the DH, DD, DS thing, and I definitely thought the abbreviations were overwhelming and a little silly when I first started. However, I can see the value in them now. As Ricola pointed out, it does save time if you post alot, and it actually helps you to read messages faster once you are used to the system.
You'll say "I'll never use those abbreviations" but I'll bet one or two will sneak in before you know it!
Especially referring to medical and technical stuff (and especially on the Trying To Get Pregnant board), the abbreviations come in very handy. I do not want to read "egg white cervical mucus" or "positive pregnancy test" over and over. I did catch myself using TheBump abbreviations while I was chatting with a close friend recently, and she was utterly confused! She said, "Wait... what is a BFP?" In my mind, I thought I'd typed it out, but I hadn't.

You can find the glossary with all the abbreviations under "my boards" in the left side bar. HTH (Hope this helps)!
my thoughts EXACTLY! same with DD... why not just say "my daughter?"
don't see the purpose...
