Metformin and missed period (qustion)

Okay so Im new to this site Iv had an account for awhile but never really used it. But I have a qustion about Metformin I was put on to regulate my periods. iv been on it since Feb 15th and I had a period thanks to it  Big Smile. But now its March 25th and im two days late so I guess my qustion is can you miss your period and not be pregnant if your on Metformin. I called my Dr but she wont be back in until Monday and I cant find any info on the net about it. My last period was Feb 24th

thanks in advance,

Jess

Re: Metformin and missed period (qustion)

  • I suppose I don't entirely understand the question, but I'll try to answer. First off, I;m not taking metformin, but I will be soon, and I know a lot who have.  My 1st question is have you POAS? (Taken a PG test)?  If no, then test. Just because your on Metformin, doesn't necessiarly mean you ovulated.  And if you didn't ovulate, your period may not come for a while.  Or you just may have a longer cycle. I am on medicated cycles and mine are about 33 days long. Hope this helps.

  • Sorry I wasnt sure how to word the qustion Im just wondering why my period could be missing b/c My DR put me on Metformin to make me have a period b/c before I was put on it my last period before the one I just had was october 24th and like I said she put me On met and I had a period on Feb 24th due to the Met ( means it worked) But now here I am 10dpo and missed my period and I cant figure out why?!?  I tested FMU and got a BFN :(, But im having sore breast , feeling gross but not to the point to where im actually being sick and lower back pain . I also thought I had a uti b/c I was going to the bath room so much and still am but no pain like you have if you did have a uti so Im a little confused.
  • When did you test?  It could be a longer cycle?  I would test again every 48 hours until you get a BFP or AF.

That's my recommendation.  (But that is assuming the Met actually regulated your period and it is actually late.) Good Luck

  • Do you chart?  If not, how do you know that you're 10dpo?  If you're really 10dpo you're not 2-days late.  Average LP is something like 10-16 days, so you really shouldn't be expecting your period for a few more days.

  • No I do not chart and yes I am two days late b/c I should have had my period on the 24th. I said 10 dpo b/c thats what a chart on a website said ( maybe its wrong ) idk but thats what it said for some odd reason its saying my period shouldnt be here until the 27th?? I have no clue why?? . But I do know for a fact Im two days late and actually today im three. Sorry if I sound dumb but I was going by the site lol.
  • This sounds like me! I have been taking Metformin since October for PCOS to help regulate me. Flawless cycles during November, December and January. February's period was a little off, a few days late and much lighter than normal. This month, I have yet to get a period. I am 3 weeks late and was having all the symptoms of pregnancy. Took a million tests all negative. Just went to my ob/gyn today and she did a pelvic exam and said everything looked fine. (Meanwhile I was really hoping to be pregnant) She said its probably my body adjusting to the Metformin (meanwhile why would I have so many normal cycles and then a weird one?) This is what I still don't understand but apparently you can have cycles and miss them too. I'm still a bit wired from my appointment and my disappointment so forgive me if this response is all over the place. Stick with it, and hopefully it will level out. Good luck! Still waiting for AF myself.
