Special Needs

realisticdreams

I called our NJ Medicaid office today and talked to them about Chris losing the medical card benefit.  I had a few thitngs to share that may help you.  If you have the letter from SSI saying your LO has a disability you can take it to your county Medicaid/Medicare office and your child can be put on a different program.  It won't be through SSI or the federal government.  I was told to take the paper we were supposed to have gotten and apply.  I was also told I could apply for my other boys since they have special needs as well even if they don't have the paperwork.  They other boys may not be approved but they have a good chance of being approved since their sibling has.

As far as SSI, we were told to appeal because overtime shouldn't be taken into consideration for approval or not.  Overtime isn't something that happens all the time so they need to look at more than just one month at a time.  Looks like I know what I'm doing next week!  Anyway, since you are in the same boat, thought I'd pass this on to you.

Thanks so much for the information.  As far as SSI, I know once the income goes back down she can return to payable status, but are you saying that OT shouldn't make her non-payable at all?  I'm also still a little confused on if non-payable automatically means her medicaid is invalid for those months.  I called her case worker 2 days ago & haven't received a call back yet.

I'm almost afraid to say, "too" much and that they will terminate it automatically.

I'm not sure Virginia has a program for children with disabilities whom don't qualify for once of the waivers.  The waivers here are not the same as other states.

Lucky us, Virginia doesn't even communicate with SSI, I had to file a special application.  It likes like NJ uses their edibility criteria to qualify them.

I need to get to the bottom of this, i've been working on the appeal form (all 16+pages) and have it finished I just need to make massive amounts of copies.

DD1(4):VSD & PFO (Closed!), Prenatal stroke, Mild CP, Delayed pyloric opening/reflux, Brachycephaly & Plagiocephaly, Sacral lipoma, Tethered spinal cord, Compound heterozygous MTHFR, Neurogenic bladder, Urinary retention & dyssynergia, incomplete emptying, enlarged Bladder with Poor Muscle Tone, EDS-Type 3. Mito-Disorder has been mentioned

DD2(2.5): Late term premie due to PTL, low fluid & IUGR, Reflux, delayed visual maturation, compound heteroygous MTHFR, PFAPA, Bilateral kidney reflux, Transient hypogammaglobulinemia, EDS-Type 3

    and..

I *think* that Peyton should qualify for that..I can answer yes to all of those questions, I just don't know because *she* doesn't work if we could still use that.

Who knows, this is so confusing!

This guy said they shouldn't have to count the OT.  I'm not sure about that.  He also said to have the secondary waiver in case the other medicaid is cut off for those months as well.
