Two Potty Training Questions

I am trying to plan ahead just a bit...

1) Would it be alright to let LO have the little seat that sits on top of a regular toilet seat or does it have to be the little bitty toilet that you have to clean out every time?

2) If LO is consistent about when she pees (as in...I know she pees in the evenings within about 1 minute of taking off the diaper for a bath), do you think at those very consistent times I could let her sit on a potty and just let the rest of the day be as it's always been with diaper changes? Would that be a relatively easy way to introduce the purpose of the toilet?

I am not planning on pushing potty training (I know that can be more trouble than it's worth for doing things too quickly and/or too fast) but LO has peed in the tub before I could get the water going every day for the past two to three weeks so I might as well put it to good use right? Also diaper changing is an absolute nightmare of screaming/crying/wrestling so maybe the start of potty training will be more fun for both of us...

I have tried this too, because LO pees as soon as her feet hit the water, but I can have her sit on her potty for 5 minutes and she still won't pee until her feet hit the water!! LOL

    Good luck

  • I should have also told you that I brought out the potty a couple months ago just to get her familiar with it.  She sits on it occasionally and she will take a book in the bathroom and sit on it and "read", but she has yet to go in it yet.  I just wanted to kind of get her used to having it around
  • We bought a potty just to get DS used to it.  Before bath we let him sit on it and he pees every time.  Of course we make a big deal about it so he will squeeze and push to get a few drops even if he doesn't have to go.  I figure this is a good start.  We will try to potty train this summer when I am home.

  • LOL, I'm hoping this won't happen because she is peeing before the water even starts running. We have even been just a bit too slow walking from changing station to bathroom and I've had to clean up little puddles Wink

ETA: I meant about only peeing when her feet get wet. For some reason the quote didn't post with my response...

  • Whoohooo to success on the first try tonight! I just wished I had thought about having a camera to catch her "WTH just happened?" look...

I have a seat reducer for S (we EC) but my understanding is that when you are actually potty training, it's good to also have a little seat so they can go on their own. When we start actively PTing, I'll probably get a little seat.

And there is no reason not to put your LO on the potty if you know they are going to go. S always sits on the potty while her bath water is running. She can see her toys floating from up there, anyway.

this exactly. after meals and before/after sleeping are good times, too.
