Preemies

what is a normal rate of growth for a preemie?

I could just be worrying too much - but we took the nugget in for her 2 month well visit and she gained a pound and 2.5 inches since her last visit on March 4.  The doc was pleased with her growth.  Maybe its because she is on a 27 cal diet, I just thought she would be gaining a little more then just under an ounce a day.  Am I totally out of wack?  I have no idea whats "normal" for preemies

  • There isn't really a "normal". She'll develop her own normal rate of growth and they'll watch that she's consistent. My LO has been in the 20th percentile since birth and as long as she doesn't dip below that curve, her doc is happy.

  • They like to see a 1oz/day rate.  I would say that since dd was iugr she would have a slightly slower rate.  E was at about a .5 oz/day in th nicu which they never really liked but she just didn't grow faster.  Once home she neared 1oz/day she was on 24cal/oz bm fortified with enfacare

  • Our pedi likes to see .5oz a day.

  • That is about the same pace that Andrew gained as well and he's always been a good grower :)  He is 2 on on the actual chart.
  • Our pedi said anywhere from 1/2oz to 1oz a day is great.  My DD is on the slower side of growth, around 1/2oz day but pedi is still happy with it.  They all have their own schedules =)

    I agree with this ^ .

DD shot up to the 50th percentile around 4 months and has been hanging out there since then.
