I know that you can't get Lasik while you're pregnant because of a thickening of the cornea.
My contacts have never really bothered me before, but I can see it being a pain getting up in the middle of the night to feed the baby and not being able to see. So I was considering getting my eyes done while I was out on maternity leave so I wouldn't have to take additional (unpaid) time off.
Does anyone know how long after giving birth you can do the procedure? Does it matter if you're breastfeeding?
Re: Lasik and pregnancy
My hubby had it done. They gave him xanax before surgery to calm him. And one to take after to keep him relaxed...otherwise no pain meds.
That said, your eyes change quite a bit while pregnant and in the 6-9 months following they re-adjust. My script changed by .75 a year from getting pregnant and delivering. With this pregnancy, they have changed even more (I cannot see as well).
Talk to your eye doc and see what he/she says!
This is what I was wondering. I'm not really concerned about the pain, but how long before my eyes are back to normal and if that can be prolonged by breastfeeding (not that it is a reason to not BF, so to get an idea). Thanks!
I had Lasik done a couple of years ago. I didn't need to take anything before, during, or after the procedure. They wanted me to go home and sleep for 3 hrs after the procedure and the next day I drove myself back to the office for a check-up and was seeing 20/15.
If the place you are going to doesn't do the procedure on Saturdays then you really only need to take one day off from work. The day you have the procedure done. But that all depends on the surgery you have. They sometimes have to do one that takes at least 3 days to heal and is painful healing.
