D.C. Area Babies

Mom friends..

Hi! I'm due in September and really want to find some mom friends. I've tried meetup with no success so far. Does anyone have any suggestions for making new mom friends? Other than walking up to random pregnant women and asking them to go to lunch lol :)

Re: Mom friends..

  • Making mom friends is like dating all over again!

I found making mom friends was much easier once LO had arrived. Walking around your neighborhood with the stroller, visiting neighborhood parks, and of course DC Nestie GTGs have helped. I made a mom friend from chatting while visiting the library play room since we had kids around the same age who played well together and I asked for her number. HTH!

  • A lot of area hospitals have a weekly new moms meeting or breastfeeding support meeting.  I went to those at Arlington Hospital after my LO was born, and have made a great group of friends who we are now in a playgroup with and see often.  You need to go pretty consistently to see who is there, but totally worth it.  And, if nothing else, getting out of the house with the LO early on to a safe place is great.

Look at you all pregnant!  Hope you're doing well this time around!

  • Couldn't agree more re: comment about making mommy friends is like dating...

Another idea is to take a prenatal yoga class--I met a couple of moms with due dates around mine during both pregnancies.

Oh yeah! My weekly "boob class" was at least one way to get out and be social once a week.

  • Where are you located?  VA?  MD? or DC?
  • I met a really good friend at a hospital organized new moms group.  Our babies were a week apart.  17 months later and we hang out and do stuff at least once a week.

  • Great suggestions, because I've been wondering the same thing! Maybe this will motivate me to actually pick a prenatal yoga class to try rather then just talk about it!

  • Check meetup.com.  A lot of bumpies belong to Mamistad which is a great group. I also found a playgroup for my daughter now that I am a SAHM through meetup.com.

     Good luck!
