Car Seat Question

I have one more car seat question!  I own a Britax Marathon.

Rear Facing goes up to 49" and less than 35 lbs. My little guy is 15 months old, 31" and 25 lbs.  I would like to keep him rear facing as long as possible, however, his feet are hitting the back of the seat a lot to the point where his knees have to be bent to sit rear facing.  He looks like he is starting to get uncomfortable sitting that way.

Should I be concerned that his feet are like this?  What happens if we are in an accident?

Re: Car Seat Question

  • That is perfectly fine. Although it looks uncomfortable it is proven to be much safer. The academy of pediatrics is actually recommending that they sit with their legs crossed or indian style if need be. Even if their legs are sticking straight out and hitting the seat it's still safer than being forward facing. If in a car accident and rear facing the injuries would be minimal(maybe broken leg ), but atleast not a spinal or head injury. Hope this helps!

  • Thank You!  That does help answer my question.  I know the recommended age is 2 now before turning them around, and I we'll wait.

  • there as never been an incident of a broken leg from being rear facing in an accident. Hanging them over the side is ok too :)
