When to see doc for croupy breathing?

Isaac freaked the heck out of me in the middle of the night with this crazy croupy breathing... super loud.  I lay awake imagining his airway closing (yes, paranoid mommy).  He seems fine this morning, but still has a croupy cough.  He also has been playing with one ear... not really pulling it, so I'm wondering if it's just self-soothing?  

Does this seem like something I should call the doc about?  I have no confidence in our current pedi, so I'd need to hunt one up.

    If he has stridor I'd bring him in (serious wheezing sounding between coughs).  They can give him a dose of oral steroids that helped DS a lot.  Middle of the night is the worst time for it, so I'd keep an eye on him during the day and even take him to urgent care if he seems to be getting worse towards night.  DS ended up with a bad double ear infection a day or two after we were in for the croupy cough, so it is totally possible it could be bothering him.

    Croup usually tends to get worse at night, so I would bring him in to get checked asap. I've dealt with that cruddy illness way too many times to mess around with it anymore. Get on it before it gets worse!

    Shoot!  Just getting the rest of these.  Now its almost 4 on a Friday... Not sure I can get in anywhere.  I'm in the N. Kirkland area.
