diet

Could it be bad in any way that Sienna does not drink juice or eat much sweets? Could this be depriving her of any nutrition? She drinks water & milk. Tried juice a couple of times, she didn't like it. That was months ago though, maybe I will try again. She hasn't had chocolate yet. No candy, or chips. The sweetest stuff she has had is crackers, yogurt, banana bread, croissants, crepes with jelly, ice cream (twice).

It's not that we are trying to deprive her, we just don't keep the stuff in the house. She loves vegetables, soup, cheese, pasta. I have even gotten her to eat some chicken, pork & fish which is a huge accomplishment. I'm afraid once she tries junk, she's going to be crying for it & boycotting real food.

Re: diet

  • From a mom who's kid only wants cheese, cheese and more cheese (mac and cheese, cheese quesadilla, grilled cheese, etc.) be SO happy that she eats her veggies and other things that are good for her.  I see no need to introduce things that aren't healthy if she is happy and eating what you give her.  We only gave T juice (a juice box is the only way she'll drink it) because she was constipated from ... guess what?  all the cheese!!  Little stinka binka won't eat anything else even when I try to hide veggies.  Sounds like your DD is doing great and IMHO I wouldn't fix it if it ain't broke :)

  • I don't think so.  S's doctor told us to keep her off of juice for as long as we can as it is just empty calories.  She said that if we give her juice to make sure to water it down a ton.  S doesn't get much junk food as we don't have it in the house either.  We haven't stopped her from trying it if we have it in the house, but she will choose other things over junk food if given the option.  I'm sure that will change in the future - lol.  Anyways, I think you are doing a great job!
  • Margaux doesn't drink juice either, just water and milk.  I don't think it hurts her.  Anything she shows an interest in we let her taste (within reason) and I just want her relationship with food to be a healthy one.

Matty hasn't had juice or cookies or potato chips yet either. I was positive my MIL was going to call CPS on us for not giving Matt a traditional cake for his first birthday. He had a an organic apple muffin with a banana glaze on top.

We do plan on slowly introducing sweets after he turns two but for now we are making sure he loves fruits and vegetables first.

DH and I agreed that we didn't want to give Matt things like french fries or potato chips until he could understand that they were a small part of the meal and not THE meal.

  • What's the problem? M tried juice twice and didn't like it. He's not super fond of sweet stuff and I'd much prefer that to him having a sweet tooth.
  • While Aaron DOES like sweets (chips, chocolate, you name it), he doesn't really care for juice?I've offered it a few times?and he's weird about the milk. But I've complained about that before. But he prefers FRUIT to everything else.  He likes peas too.  Not much for other veggies but I hope as the Summer goes on, he'll like vegetables when they're fresh.

  • Noah didn't care much for juice and sweets much either and now he is a fiend for them at 3 and a half. Don't worry, they will catch up on their own. He still loves everything else but we have to really limit his juice cause that is all he wants to drink. He loves sweets now too and when he was younger, he didn't really care for them. His 1st birthday cake he acted like he was being poisoned. Even his second birthday, he didn't care all that much for it.

You are definitely not depriving her of anything. Probably just saving her teeth :)

  • Day-um! Your kid is a good eater! Mine won't touch meat unless it is in chicken nugget form. She gets on veggie kicks (green beans right now) but will only eat that one veggie. She doesn't eat anything red/orange.

  • No, not bad, well, not unless you are eating it in front of her - then that is just mean. I can't imagine you doing that and it looks like from your post that you just don't have it around. We are worried that she will prefer junk over healthy foods.

We are the same way w/junk food. We restrict foods with high fructose corn syrup and added sugar, in general. Maddie did have a few Mike and Ikes at the movies since we were sitting next to her eating them, but that is one of the few times she has had candy and she only had a few, ever. She loves fruit and most vegies and loves all meat. We want to hold off sweets as  long as we can, knowing that at some point she is going to have more access to it. All we can do is indulge her love of healthy fruit.

  • Sarah doesn't like juice or sweets. That's the least of my worries in her nutrient.

Just curious - what could possibly be bad about a toddler NOT eating candy & juice?  Sorry. confused by this post.

One beautiful toddler and one beautiful baby.
