I have to go in for #4 next week. And according to the nurse if that one goes well, then they'll talk about scheduling an U/S because that right now at 5 weeks ( according to her) there wouldn't be much to see.
But I know other posters have had maybe 2 or 3 betas with U/S shortly thereafter.
Wouldn't they want to ( and shouldn't they be able to) see at least a sac and a fetal pole by now?
Is there a rhyme or reason to this ? Is it because I did an IUI and not IVF?
Just trying to understand the mechanics and logistics better so I can relax a little bit more between betas and waiting for a U/S.
Re: Just curious, how many betas did you do before U/S?

10/09-started our journey 3/14/10- Dx anovulatory 12/29 IUI #3 BFP beta 1-25, 2-60, 3-2064. u/s 1 beautiful baby
We did IVF. Two betas: 9dp5dt and 11dp5dt. First u/s was at 6w5d. (they wanted it at 7w, but DH was traveling for work that week, so they let us come a few days earlier...) We saw the two sacs and two heartbeats at our first u/s...
Good Luck!!

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
I only had 3 betas drawn, but they were really far apart. So just because you see that 3 betas were drawn, some are a week apart... not just the typical 2 days. I had them drawn at 13dpo, 17dpo, and 24dpo.
My clinic wants to do an ultrasound after your levels are above 5000 since they say that will equate to seeing something on the u/s. I had my first u/s at 6w and we were able to see sac, yolk sac, and heartbeat.
I had my first u/s at 5 weeks, but only because my beta's were not rising nearly as fast as yours are, and they wanted to see if I was having an ectopic pregnancy. All they saw was a black dot with a halo around it, and they thought it was a gestational sac - but even then they couldn't be sure. Trust me, this u/s was far from re-assuring. Typically, they don't expect to see anything definitive until your beta is over 1,500.
I know this is hard. Most people go through this part of pregnancy being completely clueless as to what is happening, but us IF gals get to shoulder the extra burden of knowing too much. Hang in there!

Every clinic is different, but for my IVF mine did two betas (I asked for the third) and the 1st u/s @ 7wks, so they can see the HB, then you are graduated. Many others have earlier u/s's, but as you said there isn't much to see and they can often lead to more worry than real answers on what's happening, since development varies by pregnancy. GL!

With our IVF we did four betas and the u/s was at 7 weeks.
It is torture, but once you see the heartbeat you'll forget about the hell of waiting.
we did IVF and i had 2 betas before my u/s. first u/s was at 5w4d coupled with a beta.
after that, i had 2 more u/s+betas each week, and graduated at 7w4d.
i have seen lots of different u/s+beta schedules on here. i think some REs don't do u/s until past 6w so you can see a h/b.
good luck! i hope the time flies until your u/s!
