Feeling defeated today

I guess I'm just frustrated because I feel like my nesting instinct has kicked in now. I never really nested before DS was here because I never went into labor. Sure, I did some cleaning the day before we had to be at the hospital for the induction, but I'm in full out nesting mode now. I want to do it all...clean everything completely from top to bottom, and I have no time. Liam only sleeps about 2 hours a day and if I try to put him in his bouncer or swing while he is awake so that I can get stuff done, he fusses and cries. I sometimes try giving him a pacifier, but that is frustrating for me because it falls out every 3-5 minutes. I'm also having a difficult time trying to balance everything. I want to take time for myself, but feel like I should do cleaning before I do that. I also am doing a focus group through work where we have to read a textbook, try some of the strategies in it through our teaching, and eventually write a report about the book and our findings of using the strategies. I get paid an additional $400, but I honestly thought DS would sleep more and I would have more time to get this stuff done. I read the first 3 chapters of the book before he was here, and read a chapter today, but was constantly interrupted by crying. I can't even imagine going back to work and how I am going to manage that in 5 more weeks!

  • Breathe! You definitely sound like you need a few minutes for yourself! Can you try using a wrap or carrier so he can move with you? I hope you are able to find a balance soon!

  • Sorry!  I'm trying to nest too... It's so hard to get anything done, but just remember that being there for baby and getting some rest yourself is more important than a clean house!  :) I second getting a wrap or carrier... wearing the baby makes it so much easier to be  somewhat productive while soothing them.

  • I would drop out of that project too... :)  Everyone will understand that you need time off.

  • I don't have an outside baby yet so I can't really relate, but is it feasible for you to hire someone to clean the house?  I just had our house cleaned for the first time ever.  $80 and they did an amazing job!  I could have kissed them!

  • DS was never much of a napper either and never did that well in the swing.  He did like his bouncer enough to give me time to take a shower and get ready in the morning.  Babies don't always sleep a lot.  DS was a cat napper.  He would take little 15-30 minute naps.  It was very frustrating to me too.  I would really recommend, as other poster have, getting a wrap or a carrier.  DS loved it.  I could do house work, talk on the phone or be on the computer.  I wouldn't try to get too much done though.  Your baby is still really little and needs a lot of attention.  You need to give yourself a break and just take care of yourself and your baby.
