If you have an outside baby...

how's your swelling? I thought mine was bad when I was pregnant.. but it's about twice as bad now. I feel like my skin is going to crack open. And it's about twenty times worse on my right foot. Anyone else?

Re: If you have an outside baby...

  • I didn't have any swelling during pregnancy.  However, they pumped 4 bags of hydration into my IV while having an epidural.  My boots didn't fit leaving the hospital.  That swelling was gone in 4 or 5 days after delivery.

  • yeah i didn't have any swelling during my pregnancy and two days after we got home i noticed my hands and feet were swollen.  i realized it was from the IV but i drank a lot of water and it started to go away in the next few days.

  • I stayed grotesquely swollen for almost a week. The swelling seemed to go down almost overnight for me. I noticed a huge difference over the course of 2 days. I had PIH, so a lot of the swelling was due to my BP.. but I seriously feel like 40lbs lighter. I'm not sure how much weight I dropped because I lost my scale.. but within a week all of the water was gone.
  • I didn't have any swelling during pregnancy either, but was on IV for 24+ hours due to my c/s.  I've been wearing only crocs since December so my shoes did fit leaving the hospital, but my feet were ginormous and I had cankles!!! I have since put a very puffy pillow at the foot of my bed and my feet are down about 80% now, almost normal looking, 2 days later!!  The rule is "higher than your heart"...give it a try, hopefully it won't be long!!!

  • I had some pretty bad swelling while pregnant, but after I got home from the hospital, it was twice as bad. I even went back to the OB a few days later to have them take a look and check my BP.  They said it was just fluids from being in the hospital.  I do recall the OB telling me a week before I delivered the swelling could last up to 2 weeks after delivery.  LO is 2 weeks old today, and just this morning did I notice that the swelling is finally starting to go away.  It's not 100% gone, but it's the best my feet have looked in the last 10 weeks or so.  Hopefully it won't take you as long to get your feet back!

  • I had a c-section and had horrible swelling in my feet for the first week and a half after LO's birth.  My left foot was the worse of the two but both were painful and sometimes when I moved my foot it felt like the skin was going to burst.  I just drank a lot of water and tried to keep my feet elevated as much as possible but with a newborn I'm not sure how you are supposed to stay off your feet.
  • Swelling was worse after giving birth. The nurses said it was due to the epidural. Today is the first day my feet/ankles look somewhat normal and it doesn't feel like the skin on my feet is stretching.

  • Oh man, I thought I had bad swelling if I was too active during pregnancy, but it was really bad after I got home from the hospital...swollen even when they were propped up and I was resting. It was like that for about a week. My left foot was, by far, the worst. The running joke was "leftie is acting up again!" Stick out tongue

  • Mine got worse after delivery. But I also still have pre e so I think that has something to do with it. After a week, it got better but I still can't wear my normal socks, shoes, or any rings.sigh Doc said it could take up to 3 months to return to normal.

  • My feet swelled a little the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy. Then, my face swelled up after the c-section (my guess was from the IV's). By the second day, all the swelling was gone and never came back. My lower belly was a little swollen for awhile too, but that was from the surgery.

  • I had quite a bit of fluid via an IV during my induction so I had swelling in my legs/ankles for about a week after the delivery.

  • The swelling was comletely gone after about 2.5 weeks for me. It was better by about 2 weeks, then was gone shortly after.

  • Took about a week to go away, about 2.5 to get my rings on again.

I didn't drink nearly as much water right after delivery as I did while I was pregnant, but I swear I peed out clear fluid for 2 weeks. All of it was stored up inside me!
