My father in law is undergoing a six week radiation and chemo treatment for throat cancer but we'd like to visit with him and bring the baby along. One of his doctors mentioned that he should flush twice when using the restroom to avoid exposing others to toxins, but said it would be fine for us to visit with the baby.
I have no experience with any of this but I think some of you may have - do you know if there is any risk to the baby being around my FIL while he undergoes treatment? I'm hoping not because I think it would really lift his spirits to see all of us, but at the same time I don't want to risk any potential harm to DS.
TIA!
Re: Question re: radiation (cancer treatment) and baby
my Dad had radiation treatment for thyroid cancer and the "recommendation" was to keep babies and pregnant women (I was pg and DD was 1 y.o.) away for 2 weeks, we stayed away for a month to be safe
a year later, he had to take the radiation pills for his annual scan and my Mom stayed in our house for 3-4 days and I asked him to stay away from the kids for 2 weeks.
I took the "better safe than sorry" approach
good luck to your FIL!
