Birthday cakes

a few questions:

1.  Who did you use

2.  Did you have a style in mind or did they have pictures to browse through?

these are Ava's b-day invites, so I was thinking something along the lines of a bird or using the style of the invite as a theme, but i can't find anything.

We went with Publix--love Publix cakes! I had a style in mind, but it didn't turn out so well. I did look through their idea books, though. I had a bit of trouble at first--you can read about it here--but it turned out well in the end. It was a headache to deal with, especially when we had so much other stuff going on.

Those invites are so cute--and I love the birds and flowers! Reminds me of this delightful wedding cake I saw the other day on a friend of mine's blog:

  • We have used Kelly Kakes in Roswell for many cakes... Piece of Cake is also good... not usre how decorative they are though, the cakes we've gotten from there have just been standard.

  • Kerrin...answering ur question to my post below.

I didn't had a design in mind. I emailed her my invite and she came up with the recommendation.

  • Your invite reminds me of the cake RaleighsMom had for her daughters birthday. She ordered from the cake lady...

    here are pictures of it:

  • L and C's parents have been using Kelly Kakes for years.

They always have themed b-day parties and kelly matches the cake design to it incredibly well :).

  • I thought about Kelly's Kakes, but we ended up with Matty Cakes in Midtown/Ansley b/c it was a lot closer to us.  They did a wonderful job.  We had a theme in mind, and they have pictures on their website, but they will do anything.  We went back and forth several times as our theme/invitations changed!

  • I've never bought a cake, but my mom does cakes. She'll usually just get the invite or a napkin or something and get the customer's ideas and go from there.  She also has tons of books and pics to look through for ideas.

I LOVE Ava's invite and think it'd be really cute to do a round cake with the bottom border of the invite wrapping the sides of the cake and then the bird and music notes on top with Happy Birthday.  Oh so cute!
