hi ladies.. i'm hoping i can find someone here who has been down this road.
i was just told yesterday that our dd (21 weeks) has been diagnosed w/enlarged lateral ventricle. i don't know many details other than that at this moment. we're being sent to a specialist, but i'm waiting on the referral to go through, and my insurance is so very slow... i don't expect to know anything until late next week if i'm lucky (as far as when our appt will be).
i hate this waiting game and all the what if's since i don't know any details. i don't know if there are any other things to be diagnosed or if this is the only issue... or if it's a mild case or severe... :-/
i'm trying to not freak out too much yet since there are so many details unknown but it's really hard, and it's really hard not to google and read worse case scenarios.
anyway, like i said, i'm hoping to find someone who's been down this road who can give me some advice on what to expect.... or questions to ask, or just anything really.
i tried the high risk board, but no luck yet.. i found this board through googling the condition..
thanks for any help!
Re: enlarged lateral ventricle/ventriculomegaly
I am sorry you are dealing with this anxiety-causing situation. I've been there.
My son was diagnosed with mild ventriculomegaly, confirmed by fetal MRI, at 19 weeks. At the time, no other brain abnormailities were seen. The ventricles remained mildly dilated throughout the pregnancy. I also had a CVS, which showed a normal karyotype.
I recommend you have a fetal echo. My son was born with a small VSD (murmur) that was never detected on the dozens of ultrasounds (including level 2) I had due to the ventriculomegaly and my advanced maternal age.
Here's the hard part: no one can tell you what, if anything, the ventriculomegaly will mean (whether it's isolated or not). For all the "bad" outcomes, there are just as many "good" ones. Stable, mild ventriculomegaly can be a normal variant, esp. if there are no other issues (which may or may not be evident until birth or thereafter, through MRI).
Also, there is a ventriculomegaly board on the website," i am pregnant" that may be a good resource for you.

thank you so much for your reply!! i will definitely add fetal echo to my list of ?s for the specialist.
i have been to that website but was a little overwhelmed at the way it's laid out. but i'll go back and see if i can get the hang of it lol.
thank you again!
