Another heartburn question-in 3rd tri

I know this week there have been a lot of heartburn questions.

I just wondered - if you have it and got it later in pregnancy, did you have it until you had the baby?   I can't imagine 12 more weeks or this heartburn pain.

I've had it for 3 days now with no tums (or other relief) and it seems to keep me from eating as much.  I get it with water too!

Re: Another heartburn question-in 3rd tri

  • It didn't start for me until the 3rd tri and it's still going strong! (I'm barely ahead of you though...)

  • yeah, it sticks around.  I didn't really have it all that bad until like 30+ weeks.  Now, every time my stomach is empty I get it.  Horrible.
  • I'm so sorry to tell you that mine has only gotten worse as the weeks progress.  I used to only get it when I was laying down.  Now I have it all.the.time.  I hope it gets better for you!

  • Thanks ladies!  Jillrock, I know the other day you said you had it all the time.  Boo,,,,

Mine is starting all day and I can't really enjoy my food.  I guess I don't need to gain any more weight.  ;)

Do the tums or zantac help?  I would rather not take something other than tums.

I do lile down most of the day - on modified bedrest, but it only started happening the last few days.  Does it happen when the baby is pushing up on the stomach/lungs?  I'm short, so maybe things are squished causing this.  I think mine could be acid reflux.

  • Can you call your OB and get a prescript?  I have been taking protonix (I think that's what it is) and it's a miracle!

  • Unfortunately for me it only got worse as the pregnancy went on. I get it more often and eat tums during the day and I HAVE to take a Zantac every night or else I will wake up a few times during the night with horrible heartburn. I got a prescription for Aciphex from my doc, but it didn't work as fast as Zantac does.
  • Mine started out about 20 weeks only when I was laying down and it progessively got worse. I got a prescription from my OB for Zantac and it made a HUGE difference for me. It helped soooo much.
