Co Q 10 Survey - ticker inside

Hi ladies

I'm guessing many of you won't know me, but I spent a LONG time on what was then the TTTC board as it took 3 years, 4 IVFs and too many lost babies to get our little guy.  We're now trying for #2.

I'm wondering if those of you who have some knowledge or experience with Co Q 10 could help me out.  I'm doing a bit of a poll after a long discussion with my RE.

  • Did either you or youu DH take Co Q 10?
  • Was it recommended by your RE or did you start taking it on your own?
  • If so, what was your diagnosis and was there a measurable result?
  • For women who took Co Q 10, what was your age when you began taking it (wondering if it's mostly useful in cases of AMA)
  • Any other info you have would be helpful too. Thanks

    I took CoQ10 for reasons other than fertility.  It was recommended by my chiro/accupunturist to help with extreme and recurring headaches (supposed to help get more oxygen to the brain which prevents headaches). I had a not so great time with it - made me really sick and gave me terrible stomache cramps. I've never heard of it for IF Issues but wouldn't be able to take it b/c of the s/e.

    History of IF and 2.5 years TTC. The day we were to start our first IUI we received a call that changed our lives forever and 10 month old Olivia joined our family. Shortly thereafter we got a surprise BFP and baby 2 is due July 5, 2012

    I take it right now, started taking it per the advice of ladies on another board - it's supposed to help egg quality, according to some of those with success. Some take Ubiquinol as opposed to CoQ10 as it is a more easily absorbed form of CoQ10.

    I took 200 mg CoQ10 during my IVF#3 and had the best quality eggs yet.  DH is also taking it in addition to a special fertility blend.

    It is an antioxidant and some studies show it can help w/ DNA fragmentation in men and egg quality in women. 

    My RE never recommended it - I took it on my own.

    TTC in 2008. Stage II/III endo, Hashimotos hypothyroid, low morph (3%).
    2 cycles Clomid/Ovidrel/TI/Crinone=BFN.
    IUI #1 - 4 Follistim/Ovidrel/IUI/Crinone = BFN.
    IVF #1 - Antagonist w/ ICSI 4/10. 17 retrieved, 5DT of 2, BFN :(
    IVF #2 - Long Lupron w/ ICSI 6/10. 15 retrieved, 3DT of 2, BFFN!!
    Lap 7/21/10
    IVF #3 - Clomid/Antagonist w/ ICSI 10/10. 14 retreived, 3DT of 3, BFP 10/20 but m/c. No HB 11/15/10 - D&C 11/17/10.
    FET - 2 blasts, 1 survived the thaw. Transfer 2/19. Beta #1 3/1 375, Beta #2 3/3 885, Beta #3 3/8 4261, Beta #4 3/11 9005. U/S 3/8 1 sac 1 yolk, U/S 3/16 1 heartbeat 114bpm!

     

    James born Oct. 24th 2011 via c-section at 38 weeks!

    My RE recommended it.  I am taking 200mg a day.  I started taking it about a month ago and will be doing IVF #3 in June.  Hopefully it will help!

    MH took CoQ10 because his morphology was a bit low and I had read that it helped with fragmentation.  It's hard to tell if it had any effect because he made a lot of lifestyle changes and took other vitamins as well, AND did acupuncture.  And they don't measure morphology for the IUIs, so I don't know if it improved.  But his numbers improved overall 3 months after he started everything and our IUI that cycle was the best one yet (and our BFP cycle).

    Dh's urologist said it was the only vitamin that was proven to help sperm.  So, my Dh takes it.

    Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.
