Cincinnati Babies

Do you hear that?

That is the sound of money being pi$$ed away at my household mixed with my tears.

1) a $13,000 flood/basement bill which our insurance is covering only $5,000 and the county has told me I pretty much have a fat chance of getting $$ out of them for it.

2) I also was just informed our house payment is now going up $170/mo. b/c the people that used to live here were 65+ and got a tax break that we were never informed of...until now that is,

3) I just had to pay Cameron's medical bills which I'm mad at DH about b/c my insurance was better than his for L&D but he told me his was so I switched to his when I should've kept mine.

Re: Do you hear that?

  • I sorry! What a sucky day!! Big hugs!!

I feel you on the insurance thing. We added Nolan to Kevin's policy because HE wanted him on his. While mine would have been a bit more expensive per month $350 compared to his $300 - I have no co-pays for Dr. visits or meds. I tried to keep telling him how it could end out to be cheaper but noooooo he wanted him on his.

I'm scared shi!less to see what his NICU bills are going to be!!

At least my four day L & D experience is on my insurance!

  • Oh, my gosh, I would be freaking out, too. Is there any way you can fix the basement for less than 13k? Even if you did a bare bones job cleaning it up for now, and finished the rest of it later, when there is more money? Such a mess, and I really feel like the county should be pitching in because it was their pipes that caused the problem to occur in the first place.

  • What a stressful situation! I am so sorry. I would be livid about the insurance not paying for the repair. First thing I would do is switch companies because that is just not cool and it's just the principal of it!

  • We have a bare bones estimate that comes in at $9k for the basement, but that is still another $4k from our end.  I just added up all of the items that we lost too, which I hadn't done until now and that is another $4k.  I couldn't believe it added up to that much plus I left some stuff out.  I didn't think we lost that much of stuff.

I guess $5k is the average for water/backup payouts by insurance companies unless we had a much larger basement.  Flood insurance would've given us more but we don't have that.

Oh, and I forgot that our daycare is also doubling going up $400 more a month too, but we budgeted for that already.  Just when I thought we were on track, ugh.  I mean we were prepared for this baby and we will make the $$$ work, I just didn't need this curve balls.

  • Oh wow.  That is awful!  Our mortgage went up $65 per month right after I quit teaching to start this childcare and we flipped out!  We made it work, but when you think about that cost over a year it is ridiculous!

And for your basement, can your DH do some of the work with whoever you are hiring to lower the cost?  Like painting or drywall or insulation type stuff?  It sounds like you are going to have to do a lot of plumbing type stuff, but other than those costs, we basically gutted entire rooms in our house and it is soooooo much cheaper to do it yourself.

Ugh, I hope everything ends up working out!  Maybe when you gut the basement, you'll find cash just stashed away in a wall...  DH and I always joked about that since the guy who lived here before us had stuff stashed in weird places, no $ yet, but you never know...

  • Wow, what a downer.  I can't imagine all of that happening at once.  :(

I hope you end up with a surprise inheritance or win the lottery.  I don't know what else to wish you!
