I'm just wondering how you would rate your parents' name choices. Do you like your name? Would you say you and your parents have a similar naming style?
My sister was Annette, and I'm Emily. I believe Jeremiah was their top choice for a boy name, but we never had a brother.
I like their choices, overall. Though Emily got pretty popular a few years after I was born, I think it's still a very decent name. I also always liked how Annette and Emily sounded together.
I wouldn't say that my parents and I have the exact same naming style, but we seem to have similar tastes in names in general.
I'm Michelle and my sister is Brittany. Names of the 80's, but not Ashley and Jennifer so I guess we lucked out. She was very young when she had us so I think that factors into it.
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
Well my name is Nina and sister is Teressa pronounced TER-ressa. Theyre top pick for boys names were Justin and Colton. Not sure what style that would fall in.
I'd say overall I like their choices in names, with a few wild cards I just don't understand on their end.
My mom loves spunkier, original names like Margot, Eve (back when Eve wasn't so popular), and Carly (again, before it was popular). The one name she loves that I just don't get is "Carl" for a boy, lolol.
Dad's taste is very classic/old lady: He nixed Mom's Margot for Margaret (which she then nixed), her Eve for Elizabeth, and he loved Charlotte long before it was in vogue.
I like my name. The thing that bothers me is that my Mom really wanted to name me her maiden name, but she was afraid that my aunt would be mad if I wasn't named after her. I hate that she gave in.
I also wish she would have gone with naming me her maiden name. Her generation was the last in her family to have it as their last name and she has all sisters, so the name has died out. I planned on naming my child (boy or girl) the name, but then my H's cousin used it for their child. I hope my bro and his wife use it so the name kind of lives on in our family.
My sister is Erin Colleen, but their boy name was Gary Francis My brother is Patrick Russell, but their girl name was Kelly Elizabeth (I THINK that was the mn they had picked)
I am Megan Marie and I would have been Sean William if I were a boy.
I would have to say they did pretty well. My siblings and I came out with strong names, that don't sound like they're from the 80's and were several years old before we met another! Philip ('79), Leah ('83), and Levi ('85).
My parents' style was very classic, and pretty similar to mine. It was heavily influenced by people they knew/characters from stories that they admired. The names they had picked out were:
I think my parents did great. My name is Alexis Anna (if you couldn't tell). I was born in 1983 so it was incredibly rare growing up to find another Alexis at the time. I love my name.
My sister's name is Amy Marie (born in 1981). I like her name just as well. A bit more popular for the time, but still very pretty.
ETA: I am glad we weren't boys. We would have been Travis and Brandon which are just NMS.
My parent's used classic names (Michael and Laura), but the other names on their list were all trendy so I'm not sure how we ended up with classics. I love my name and I love Michael's name. I think they did great.
I like my name a lot....Leah Christine. I was originally supposed to be either Molly or Jacob (both of which I like), but they changed their mind at the last minute. My sister is Carrie, which I think was very popular in the early 70s, and my brother is Steve, which is okay, but you don't really hear anymore these days.
My name is Lauren and my sister is Natalie. If I had been a boy I would have been Brandon. I think they did a good job. I'd say we have a similar style. My mom's suggestions when I was pregnant with DS1 were all good.
My mom...not so good. My dad, pretty good. She wanted to name me something that was super BLAH (not gonna say it because I'm sure someone's bound to have the name), but my dad fought her on it and won. I'm Allison, and I've always liked my name a lot. It was nice because there was never a ton of us in one class or grade for that matter. I only knew a couple others growing up but we were different ages.
They divorced and my 1/2 sibs (from my dad and stepmom) are John and Kelsie (who was almost Emily).
I do not have the same taste in names at all, but over all, think they did a pretty decent job
My parents' taste is fine, but their spelling skills could use work. I actually really like my name, I just wish it had been spelled differently. I think we have similar goals when selecting a name.
I like that they picked less common names so I guess I would say their naming style is okay. My sister is Mignon (nn Ming) and I'm Deirdre (nn Dee Dee). I think my mom like Victoria for another girl and Christopher for a boy. I would like to think I have slightly better taste. My dad also has two sons with my stepmom named Eston (pronounced Eh-stin, not like Easton) and Jady (would have been Jade if he was a girl). I always liked having a different name.
Dee Dee

I think my parents liked trendier names when they named us (some contenders were Michelle, Ashley, and Jason). My mom also told me that she really likes the name Madison for a girl, so I would say we have pretty different styles.
>I like my first name, but I hate the ANN, I always felt it should have been spelled with an "e" as in: Amber Anne, but either way, not fond of the Ann/Anne in general.
My older Brother is: Dusty James
> I think my parents were crazy to name my brother "Dusty" (after Dusty Rhodes, the famous wrestler). It has to do with my mom and grandma bonding over wrestling (??) when she was young. He has been picked on fiercely because of it (including from me when I was younger >.>).James is a family name, so I won't really argue with it.
In general, I don't think my parents and I like the same names, but I get them not wanting us to be more Jessica's and Michael's. I don't like traditional names either.
my name is okay - i don't love it, but i don't hate it.
i think my parents and i all err on the side of classic.
This but safe...
Danielle, Spencer and Austin To which I changed it to Daniela and Aist changed his name to Agustine. I guess we were more Mexican than she planned! lol
My mothers tastes are generally all top 10 names of the years we were born. So I guess most would consider her to have good taste. I myself prefer names that are not THAT popular, but do not hate my name.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I like my name and my siblings' names - Brian, Amy, Jeremy, Jessica (me), Jonathan. Oldest 3 have biblical middle names. I would say I have a similar naming style in going with simple, pretty classic names, but I wouldn't name 3 kids names that start with the same letter - especially since both of my parents' names start with J too!! They actually didn't do it on purpose or to be theme-y, they just liked all the names. But still, I don't think I would do that.
Jess & Adam, married 2009, precious Audrey born in 2011. BFP 1/6/13, 6-wk MMC discovered at 9 wks 2/11/13. D&C 2/18/13, second D&C 4/23/13 for retained placenta. BFP 8/24/13!! EDD 5/1/14, delivered healthy and sweet Zoey Leanne on 5/5/14 by repeat c-section.
I respect my parent's naming style - it was all family names.
My first name is my maternal grandmother's first name (Jill) and my middle name was my paternal grandmother's maiden name (now my mn is my maiden name).
My sister's name is my paternal great-grandmother's name (Joanna). Her middle name is my maternal grandmother's maiden name.
Do I LOOOVE my name? No. I actually really hated having a last name for a middle name growing up. My grandmother was Danish and the name isn't exactly pretty to the ears. But as I get older I have learned to appreciate my name even if it isn't exactly what I would choose for myself given the choice.
For our kids we actually avoided family names. We just didn't feel compelled to use something we didn't love just to "keep it in the family".
I think they did pretty good... not original or names I'd pick for my kids... Amanda Marie (Marie kinda being tradition to give to the 1st daughter), Tiffany Nicole and Holly Danielle, all in 1984. Irish Triplets. Then, my little brother in '90, Eric Olaf, which has thankfully been changed to Eric William.

Great! I actually love my name it is Courtney Brynne, I know Brynne is getting super common now, but when my mom used it no one had ever heard of it. She has had some great suggestions for this LO's name as well.

I actually really like my parents taste in names.I don't think we really have the same taste in naming styles, but I do like my name and my siblings names. I think all our names really fit us.
My brother was to be Keith until our neighbors son was Keith and 2 weeks before my brother was due he died from SIDS. So my brother was named Craig Scott.
My sister is Tracy Lynn and I am Kelly Lynn. My father named me as they thought I was going to be a boy and if I was my name would have been Ryan Albert. I have no idea where my brothers middle name comes from, but Lynn is a family name and Albert is my fathers name.
I think my parents did a good job, but they ran out of good names after my little brother, so I'm glad they stopped at two. We are Andrea and Sean-common but not overused-but my mom's next one would have been Merissa (spelled this way) or Cody.

My best friend growing up had this name, spelled that way, but pronounced Marisa...even as a kids I was like, did her mom not know how to spell?

I think my name is great, classic and although it was supposedly very popular I did not know another Elizabeth growing up.
My sisters are Christine Lauren and Diana...so Id say they had classic style..i have similae but not exact taste.
My parents leaned more toward trendy, while I prefer more classic names.
DH, on the other hand has a very "classic" name and likes trendy names.
Hmmmm...

Tess, Nell, and Kitt - we each LOVE our names!

I like it. I love my name. It suits me a lot. My brother and sister fits with it as well. I don't think we have similiar styles though.
My parents did ok. We are all girls but I included what our boy names would have been. Out of all their names I really like Daniel.
Nicole/Daniel
Kristin/Steven
Karlie/Kevin
I have a half sister from my Mom who is 12 years younger than me and her name is Daneka. If she were a boy her name would be Kurt.
I have mixed feelings:
I'm Amber Ann
