similar question was asked before about thrush and who should I call, but in my case I think I might have too much yeast on my nipples. They hurt a whole lot and even though I don't see a funky discharge - I do sense an odor that is not so fresh on the nursing pads, it wasn't there a week ago. I am exclusively pumping, so the baby is fed from the bottle and her mouth seems to be fine. I put lanolin on my nipples but all it does is moisturizes and the pain is still there. Should I call my OB or primary physician? Any remedies to overcome this on my own without prescription?
Thank you!
Re: Yeast?
My LC told me to use breastmilk itself to help with it a yeast infection. I don't know much of a yeast infection you've got, so it may not work, but her advice was to rub your milk onto your nipples and let them air dry. This is supposed to help with dryness and blisters as well.
She also recommended a saltwater soak for soreness. Put about a teaspoon of salt into 8oz of warm water and soak your nipples for about 10-15 minutes.
Still though, you can always check with the OB.
