We are new homeowners. This morning I came around the corner with DD's breakfast, and see a lady standing outside our picture window, in the front middle of our yard...waiting on her dog to finish pooping. I was kind of shocked, because I would never walk way up into someone's yard to let a dog do his business. We made eye contact a couple times but I didn't smile/wave, and also tried not to show too much emotion because I don't know if she lives on our turnaround or not. I've only seen the rat dogs being walked around the neighborhood a few times.
My Daughter plays in that yard, and even with her picking up the poo...I know from experience you can't always get all of it off the grass. There are plenty of greenspace areas just a half-block away that far more suitable. Just so gross...I know the lawn by the sidewalk is kind of fair game, but would I be out of line to go out and ask her to not come into our yard next time?
Re: WWYD?
Was the house vacant for a while? Ours wasn't, but the yard was crazy overgrown and obviously not taken care of, so our neighbors had gotten accustomed to letting their dogs go in our yard.
I think they stopped once they realized we were here and cared--it's a pretty neighborly neighborhood.
Maybe she saw you watching and felt like an idiot? Give it a little while and only say something if it happens again.
I'd love a short fence around our front yard, just for the keep-out vibe!

When I've caught people letting their dogs poo in our yard I've taken them a baggie to pick it up with (just in case they don't have one) and waited out there to make sure they do it. And it would NOT be rout of line to ask her keep to the dog out of your yard.
This! I would have brought her a bag and asked her to take her dog waste with her. There is no way she would have any grounds to complain.
I would have done that too. Just popped my head out the door and said "Hey, I'm Mrs. X. My H and I just bought this house. We would really appreciate it if you wouldn't let Mr. Poodles here defecate on our lawn. Thanks. Bye!" Short and to the point.
