Has anyone registered for birth classes?

I checked out my local hospital's website and found some birth classes that I'm interested in taking.

Anyone registered for classes yet? Thinking about it?

Re: Has anyone registered for birth classes?

  • Yes, we are registered for the 3 day $100 class at our hospital in late June. Check with your insurance company... many of them subsidize the cost or reimburse you in full for the class!

  • I registered yesterday, because when I called to ask about the classes, the lady informed me that their classes are already filling up.  She said that we could change the date if need be (depending on availability), but that it was better to get a spot secured now rather than chance it later.  I'm due Oct. 1, and registered for an early August class, due to them not having a late August class.

  • I sure am! My obgyn told me that the classes fill up really quickly so we're registered for a weekend class in July. It's through the hospital and is $85.00. Really looking forward to it!

  • Funny you posted this - I was actually just now looking into birthing classes. I was pretty set on just going with the standard two day $100 class my hospital has to offer, but now I think I'm going to be going with Bradley Method classes, which I wouldn't take until starting around 20 weeks.

I'm still going to be registering for the CPR/First aid infant and adult class that my  hospital offers.

  • We registered a few weeks ago.  Due July 20th and our class will be May 7th.

  • I'm thinking about it and will ask OB at appt in 2 weeks.  I may due a c-section for other health reasons so I want to see what she says.

DH and I are taking an infant CPR class in July

  • Yes, we started a 5-week series of childbirth classes 2 weeks ago.  It's been really helpful/informative so far!  I've been trying to avoid thinking about labor (denial! lol) but the classes have forced me to think about it more, which is good.

We are also registered for BFing and infant care classes (those start in May).  I had to register really early (like back in November!) for all these classes because the ones at my hospital fill up really fast.

  • Yes I registered for a tour, Labor and Deliver class and Breastfeeding class.
  • I'm not registering for any official classes because they tend to be spendy and take up a lot of your time and you learn very little (based on coworkers opinions and my dr too actually). I'm going to check out some vids online and see what I can find. I am, however, taking a bringing home baby class and an infant cpr class.

  • After reading all of your ladie's posts I decided I better register before the classes I need get full. I registered for 4 Thursday night classes in July ($50). I'm due August 22nd.

  • I signed us up for infant CPR and First Aid in May, and might do a breastfeeding class in May as well. I don't think we are going to do the childbirth classes, though. I have had too many people tell me that no matter what you learn in the class, nothing prepares you for what you will need when the time comes. So we decided just to stick with CPR and First Aid and Breastfeeding.

  • We registered this week--we're taking an 8-week series through the birth center that starts 5/2 ($125, the next series ended on our due date...thought that would be a little too close!).  We also signed up for breastfeeding class (free at birth center) and baby care basics class ($25 at hospital) this week.

  • Hehe, we just registered today as well.  We're taking a child birthing class, a hospital tour, a breastfeeding class and a breastfeeding class for working mothers.  =0)

  • We're taking a class specialized for our home birth plans and we registered in January.
  • signed up for bradley classes starting may 9th.  It's 8 weeks instead of the usual 12 for bradley.  I've heard people say that birth classes are pointless, but we are having a natural home birth and even if it wouldn't do much for me I think it would definately educate DH.  Classes are 250 though

  • oh my goodness i registered us about 2-3 weeks ago and it was a nightmare to find classes that were avaiable and open. We are taking a regular birthing class... for like $65 it meets the whole month of may once a week for 2.5 hours and then in june we are taking a parenting 101 class that is an all day 9 hr event that was $45 It drove me bonkers trying to find us the time and the open space! Check into the multiple hospitals your OB give deliver at each hospital offers different classes and have different prices! We are doing our classes at 2 different places for this reason.
