Trying to Get Pregnant

Update: Phentermine (kind long)

Earlier this week I posted about taking Phentermine while TTC and what you ladies thought about it. I completely forgot about my annual appointment with my favorite NP and the same office as the OB-GYN that prescribed the med. So I went through all the questions with the nurse...same as always. I told her we were TTC and told her the meds I was taking. A couple minutes later, the NP comes in with her arms crossed and just looks at me. (I know her more than just as a provider so we kinda joke around and get along good) I already knew what she was going to tell me so I just said, "You dont want me taking Phentermine, do you?" She said that I had to pick one (take the med or TTC) but definitely not do both. I told her who gave it to me as I see him only for my hypothyroidism and specializes in Endocrine issues with women as well. (We dont have an endocrinologist near me.) I told her I would stop taking it.

Re: Update: Phentermine (kind long)

  • I was taking Phentermine for about a month, and my RE knew about it. The PA just said to stop taking it before I O'ed- by CD10. I discontinued it at that point. I think I might go back on it if I don't get KU this cycle. I think that as long as I don't take it when I might possibly be pregnant- it is okay. Plus- losing more weight is a good thing... I am continuing to work out and eat less- but my weight loss has slowed down substantially.

  • JMO. Having used phentermine multiple times I really have nothing great to say about it. The first time I used it I lost over 60 pounds and I had so much energy. Dieting was so easy. I later figured out why, I had no idea how much caffeine was in it. As soon as I started to wean myself off the med I started putting the pounds back on. Its not a realistic tool for long term permanent weight loss.

I recommend weight watchers. It is the only weight loss plan that has ever worked for me. My grandmother started in October of 2010 and lost 60 pounds by February 2011 and is now maintaining her goal weight. I have yet to get to my goal weight, but it helps me manage my weight.
