We don't use a sippy, but give DD a glass of water with meals. I got the okay from my pedi to introduce WCM in a glass in small amounts in another six or so weeks.
I do not bc, if I am around, DS will not drink BM unless it comes directly from the source. He does drink water from a sippy which he really got the hang of around 9.5 months & takes 2 bottles of BM at daycare daily. I don't know what the transition to cows milk will be like yet.
We only do water in a sippy cup. I will not be putting BM in a sippy, but I will start to put cow's milk in a sippy cup at a year (I am weaning at a year).
I have put BM in a straw cup when I left her with her Grandma for a few hours. She never caught on to the bottle or sippy cup but does really well with a straw cup. I introduced a straw cup at 5 months and haven't searched for another cup since. I started with the straw cup because I wanted to be able to go on a date with my DH on our 2nd anniversary. It worked! YAY!
We started giving DS a sippy cup around 6 months. I started with water and gave him breastmilk in a sippy once. It was a waste. He hardly drank anything and just kept making a face whenever he tasted the BM.
We switched to straw cups around 7 months and he got those a lot easier. He drinks more from them, but I still only offer water. I don't think he'll take BM from anything other than the source. I'll probably just start offering whole milk in a straw cup when it's time to switch.

We've been trying water in a sippy, but he hasn't caught on yet. If I was doing BM, I think I would use a bottle.
