I'm trying to figure out what to wear during my birthing time. Obviously I need a gown/dress/nightie of some sort, but I also want quick and easy access to my chest so I can get immediate skin-to-skin contact with LO. What did you wear?

Re: What did you wear to deliver?
A bikini top!
(Oh - but I never got to the pushing stage with DD...but that's what I labored in while in the tub).

with baby #2, i planned to wear a loose fitting pj tank top and yoga pants and lose the pants when i got in the tub. instead, i lost everything long before the tub!
with baby #1, i had hot flashes and alternated between being covered in a robe and my birthday suit.
I had a towel wrap, since I was in and out of the pool, but wanted some modesty. It was comfy, and easy to BF in right away.
I wore a maternity tank dress for the beginning - I went to the OB's office to get checked before we went to the hospital and that was way easier than trying to take off pants!
Once at the hospital, I wore one of the hospital's nursing gowns some of the time, but mostly I was nekkid - either in the tub or in the shower. Labor was so incredibly messy (I bled through most of it) that I would never want to wear my own things!
I never got skin-to-skin (other than for maybe 60 seconds) because DD was having respiratory distress and needed oxygen, but the nursing gown easily slipped down/off so that I could have.

My birthday suit!
I labored at home in yoga pants, a long sleeved t-shirt, and I think, a tank. This is what I wore to the hospital and for the first bit during initial monitoring. Then I stripped down and got in the shower/tub. I think after I got out of the tub, I put a gown on for a very short time, but it was annoying & hot so from then on, I was naked. During skin-to-skin, I think I was still naked & covered with blankets. Then I slipped a gown on to walk to the shower and the rest of the time I was there (about 24 more hours), I just wore the hospital gown & mesh panties. I honestly didn't even think about it at all.
This is a funny question for me to answer because one of my biggest surprises about labor was that I turned into "that naked lady" who honestly did not care who saw me naked. I hit transition and suddenly was bothered by the idea of wearing clothes. So skin to skin contact wasn't a problem! This time around I am hoping to maintain a shred of modesty, so I am thinking a bikini top or a thin, simple, no-underwire bra. You really don't "need" a gown, but of course it's fine if you want it.
For my first birth, I wore a sports bra and had a blanket on me while I was sitting on a yoga ball because I didn't want to wear a hospital gown. When it came to pushing, I just had my sports bra on.
At my homebirth, I started off in yoga pants and a cotton shirt. I had a nursing bra that I wore in the tub and when I got out, I wore a stretchy skirt for awhile. For pushing again, I just wore my nursing bra. It was really warm in my room so the thought of wearing anything else was unbearable!
I liked the nursing bra better than the sports bra because it was easier for BFing and easier to get off and on.
I wore a henley nightgown so I was able to unbutton the top for easy breast access. It still wasn't the most attractive thing in the world but it worked and it was comfortable and it wasn't a hospital gown, lol.
This time, I'm going to wear a sleep tee with a nursing bra underneath and black hipster panties.
