NIFR-How much should a king bed cost?

Hi ladies,

Does anyone know what a king bed should cost?  I like the ones with the pillowtop.  Also, has anyone heard or used the NovaForm Gel Memory Foam mattress (or a memory foam in general)?  I saw it at costco for like $600 and I thought that wasn't a bad price, but didn't know if the mattress was good.  TIA!

PS-DH and I bought king pillows for the queen sized bed we have now because they are bigger and firmer (at least that was my thought).  He tells me tonight that he thought we had a king bed which is why he wanted to buy them.  Oh DH.

Re: NIFR-How much should a king bed cost?

  • I hope it's OK that I respond... We bought a king bed within the past year, and I had heard quite a few people complaining about their beds, so I did a lot of research before we bought ours.  I found a lot of helpful information about mattresses at this site: https://blog.pennlive.com/mattress/index.html

The guy who writes this blog says the top two mistakes people make in buying mattresses are going with memory foam (sleeps hot, does not hold up well, not good for your body) and getting pillow tops (starts sagging and getting indentations).  He says that it's best to buy a latex or regular coil bed and then to put a topper on it if you need more cushioning on the top (rather than getting a pillow top which cannot be removed from the bed).

We got this bed: https://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=397591&CategoryID=25946 (on sale for around $1800 for the set) and have been very happy with it.  It was more than we wanted to spend initially, but it is so comfortable, and I know it will hold up well.

  • We paid $1800 about 4 years ago for a Westin hotels "Heavenly Bed"- that included mattress, box spring and frame.  I don't think the Costco beds have a box spring included in the original price.
