Trying to Get Pregnant

Artificial cycles future impact on pregnancy?

So today I went to see the ob and we've decided to in addition to my metformin, start artificial cycles since nothing else is working.  I will be doing provera and clomid every month with monitoring and increases as needed on either.  After I left, I thought more deeply about what he said and if my body isn't producing the proper hormones estrogen/progesterone, and I use these medications to get me pregnant, will I even be able to sustain a pregnancy....or will I have to be on replacement hormones throughout the pregnancy?  I hate remembering questions after I leave.  TIA

Re: Artificial cycles future impact on pregnancy?

  • Oh, I can do some reassuring :)

If you need progesterone or estrogen supplementation after you ovulate (not everyone does on clomid, your doc should do blood work to determine), then you may be on the supplements until week 10 of the pregnancy as an extra precaution. After the 10th week the placenta will produce the necessary estrogen/progesterone. Some people only need the supplementation for a portion of the 10 weeks- the placenta is a marvelous organ and quite excellent at making sure baby gets what baby needs.

Even at the IVF level, where a ton of the hormones are artificial- I'll be off the supplements before I'm released to a regular OBGYN :)

  • I'm willing to do whatever it takes, I just wanted to know what to expect, I'm worried if I get pregnant I'll lose the baby because of my hormones problems.  Probably worded it funky.  Just want to make sure there's ways to sustain the pregnancy if my body isn't doing what it's supposed to.  Thanks!

There's always a chance of miscarriage but under the care of a good RE it shouldn't be due to hormonal deficiencies. :)
