Washington Babies

Tell me it's possible...

...to be 3cm dilated and still keep the baby in for a couple weeks.

I'm freakin'.  I had my mind wrapped around an APRIL baby.  Mid-April, at that.  At this point, if I had this baby in the next week or so, I'd HAVE to go in to work right after just to get things to a place where my sub could function (even though I've been preparing for this all school year).  Freaking, I tell you.

  • With my second pregnancy I was around 4-5cm for a while before she was born. Just dont have sex. Seriously that will make you progress fast if you are already dilated. hth :)

  • I was 4cm and 90% for 3 weeks w/ DD. I was having really bad contractions irregularly for 4 weeks.  It sucks b/c it seems like the baby is about ready to fall out but they just hang on and hang on and then all of the sudden my water broke 2 days before my scheduled C date at 39 weeks and she was so far down (not sure what station) but the doc had to stand on a step ladder and yank her out. She was face up as was my son who would not come out so C section was the route but seriously, being that dilated you would think you would just have the baby any day. Good luck - you really just never know what's going to happen so just be ready for anything at anytime at this point.

  • Totally possible.. Especially since this is #2. Just take it easy and no sex Smile

  • Keep your legs crossed.  ;)

Ok, that was a bad joke, but I'll be sending you lots of "keep cookin'" vibes.  Just do your best to prepare everything and remember that it will all be ok.  Even if baby comes sooner than planned, subs are able to take over classes last minute and work things out.  It may not be perfect, but it will get done.  Good luck mama!

  • Thanks everyone.  I feel a little less crazy now.  :)  With DS#1 my water broke first and I wasn't a 3 until I'd been at the hospital for a bit.  This might be the kick I need to get into gear on getting stuff ready though!  :)

  • I was at 5cm for two weeks before I was due, and had false labor 3 times within that period.  We even did have sex hoping things would progress, but no such luck - E was 8 days late (and induced! - by that point I was walking around at 6 cm).

  • My co-worker was 3 cm for a couple of weeks before she had her baby, so it's definitely possible.  Sending you stay in there a little longer vibes!
  • At my 36 week appointment I was 2-3 cm dilated, but he had not dropped yet, the cervix was still really far back, and nothing else showed impending labor.  I decided not to get checked at my 37 week appt earlier this week, but will be checked next week.  I have heard of plenty of people walking around at 4cm or more for a couple of weeks, but you never know... definitely time to start getting prepared :)

  • FWIW, I was at a 2 for 4 weeks before I had William (and I had him 2 weeks early).  When I had Madelyn, when I was at a 2 I was begging for drugs.  My doctor had to break my water.

With William, my water broke on it's own (that's how I knew I was in labor "for real") and I got to a 6 or 7 with pitocin beore I asked for an epidural.  My labor was much quicker when it finally got rolling.

I bet you'll find that with #2 as well, you stay in that initial labor stage that you're in for a much longer time and when active labor begins, it's not as painful as the first time around (even if it's painful - I'm not saying it doesn't hurt....just that it doesn't hurt as bad as soon).  And it goes a whole bunch quicker.

Get ready, lady....you're almost there!! :):)
