I know I've seen this name discussed before with a couple of different spellings - but can't find anything now. Middle name would be Ann. I prefer Elaine (after my grandmother), but it reminds DH of Seinfeld. I like Delaney, or Delainey, but usually like more classical names. It's a little "out there" for me. Thoughts?

Re: Search function stinks - Delaney thoughts?
To me, those two names would be pronounced differently. I would say:
Delaney = "DELL-un-ee"
Delainey= "Duh-LANE-ee"
Either way, I like it.

However you spell it, I really don't like it.
Surname turned first name on girls is my LEAST favorite trend... even more than the -ayden trend.
What about Elana or Elaina instead of Elaine?
I feel very neutral about Delaney. It's fine, but nms (which is more classic).
Hmmm, I like Elaina as an alternative.
We'd definitely use Laney as a nickname, but I can't see that being her proper name. (I have a hard time picturing Laney on a resume, for example).
Thanks for the feedback! We aren't discussing names IRL, so random internet strangers are my sounding board.
This is odd. I've never heard any of the pronunciations pronounced anyway other than duh-LANE-ee. Intuitively, they're all said the same way. There's no phonetic way it would be different.
OP, I prefer the Delaney spelling, and I love this name. I think it's charming and lyrical.
Delaney is not pronounced the way you have it in the first one.
Delaney is my last name. I liked it so much I kept it. It is my daughter's second middle name, because I wanted her to have my name in there. I very much dislike it as a first name, especially with Laney or Lainey as a nickname
Ditto.
Re: pronounciation... I have a coworker who is named Delaney. Her name rhymes with Melanie. She is the only one I have ever met. I will take note of the proper pronounciation!
This, exactly!
I'm not a fan of the evergrowing last name as first name trend. Delaney is a great last name but I would never use it as a first name. The only exception of course is if it is an actual family name for you. I think it's weird to just pick a random surname for your child's first name.
I prefer Elaine or even Elaina or Elena.

It's an okay name. I'm not a fan of the surname trend either, but this one doesn't bother me as much. I know a little girl named Delaney and she's adorable. I would spell it Delaney.
I really like the pp's suggestion of Elaina.
FWIW, my SIL is named Delaina. Her parents are named Diane and Glenn, and they mixed the letters together to get her name. She is the only one I have ever come across.
