Now, I understand this could be a long way off, as my hubby and I are TTC, but our plan is to go the cloth diapering route. We have done research, talked to friends, etc and it is something that we are really committed to. Not committed to trying...committed to doing. I shared this with some varsity moms and they laughed and said something to the effect of "we'll see!" From what I know of them, none of them have tried it, but with all of the pro's to cloth diapering, I do not understand why it is so laughable. I don't know if the "technology" is so different now that it is much easier, but the thought of spending so much on disposables, the chemicals, late night runs to the store for diapers...I think it is a better option for our family.

Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
Don't let them get you down! I am in the process of adopting and am also committed to CDs. I even converted my sister who is pregnant, after showing her all my CD!
I am unusual and live in a very "crunchy" city, so I don't get this a lot. I get some strange looks when I mention it, but people around here are pretty accepting of anything.
I think it is much easier now with the technology available in washing machines, dryers, cloth diapering detergents, new fabric technology, etc. Also, we have something many moms didn't have 20 years ago... a support system! We have the benefit of each other here to problem solve our diapering issues to help us all keep with it through the long haul. Many moms 20 years ago had some leaking or stink issues and gave up due to lack of support and options.
(Just some fuel for a rebuttal if you choose! Probably easier to just show them through your actions of CDing your little one and watch them throw their money away.)
This. In fact, if it bugs you to have them saying things like this, then I'd recommend just keeping your plans to yourself. They'll have a much harder time telling you it won't work if they find out after you've been doing it for a while.
