2nd Trimester

Do baby kicks kind of hurt?

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I am FTM2B. I feel little pangs, similiar to what I thought was round ligament pains, but they are more toward the middle and not the sides. The kick do not feel like that though, right?

TIA!!!

Re: Do baby kicks kind of hurt?

  • Mine have never hurt except when I was very far along (like 35-36 weeks) and even then generally they didn't, only occasionally if it was a really powerful one.

  • I have a LO baking that I swear should teach kick boxing, so when she kicks...ouch!

I'm surpised I don't have bruising all over my stomach. Lol.

But if you are worried, there is no shame in calling up your doctor and asking. :)

  • HAHA!!  Only when it's a kick or a jab in the ribs.  If you have an active baby, like both my boys were, they'll get ya good!  hehehe

    But it's not painful.

  • at 18 weeks I would be suprised if they hurt as much as RLP, I dont think it should be that painful especially for the first few kicks you are feeling, however, kicks directly to the bladder or other organs can be quite uncomfortbale

  • I get something like what you're describing.  It's not kicks but to me it feels like baby has shifted or pushing on one part of my tummy.

  • I've gotten little pangs like that too but I'm pretty sure it's just our bellies stretching. I THINK I've felt some kicking...it literally feels like there's something in my belly like punching from the inside out.

I know it's so strange. My doc warned me that I will be feeling a lot of different things in my stomach. It's not really painful (like I bent over in pain after a few RLP),but quick jabs, and they do not tickle. lol Oh well, I guess I'll know when I know? lol Thanks ladies!!

  • to me it feels like pressure.  It lasts a second or two and will be a few minutes a part.  Not really painful, but pressure...

  • Even his strongest kicks don't hurt, they almost tickle sometimes. I think I'd chalk it up to RLP.

  • I am pregnant with my second. With my first I never had any kicks that hurt. At first it was like a flutter. They do get stronger, but it never hurt.
  • In my experience, not at 18 weeks. DS was a VERY active in belly baby. Really, really active. And it got painful after 28 weeks.

  • I would expect you to be more at the tickle stage than painful- but yes later they can absoultely hurt. Even now (i'm 22 weeks) I've had some that were less than pleasant. I would ask your dr. though just in case you are feeling something else.

  • At 18 weeks, no they should not hurt.  I imagine you're feeling RLP if you're experiencing pain.  Later on, they may hurt.  I guess it depends on your baby.  DS was very active and his kicks and movements were absolutely painful in the third trimester.  But I see a lot of ladies on here saying their babies' kicks weren't painful.  So you'll just have to wait and see on that one, I suppose.
