Need advice tube mommies

OK as you know Wes already has tubes.  After tubes we still have infections (3 after tubes) but it is draining it out like it is suppose too and he isn't getting as sick as his brother.  So now I am thinking about Nate.  He has infections Dec, Jan, and March (twice).  We skipped Feb because we were blessed with the stomach bug.  I took him today for his 2 week check up and I  knew that he hasn't gotten rid of the infection. He has been a beast the last 4 days and also waking up during the night.  We tried this new antibiotic out called Suprax and it didn't work.  So now he wants to see him in 2 weeks and if there is any sign of anything we then go to the ENT.

But with all these infections and how sick he has gotten should I go ahead and schedule an ENT appt and not follow dr's orders?  Or should I just be patient and wait for the 2 weeks and then see with the warmer season if he gets anymore?

I am on the fence and I don't know if I should just wait.  Hearing loss is on my mothers side and that is my major concern with constant ear infections.

  • I'm all for proceeding w/ caution, but with your family history and the number of infections + drug resistance, I say call the ent asap. You don't have to get the tubes immediately but at least you will have all the testing done and when you are ready you can move quickly.

  • It frequently takes a while to get into the ENT so I would go ahead and call and schedule an appointment 2 weeks out (or as soon as you can get). If things get better before that you can always cancel but it will get you in sooner if your pedi says he needs to go. Good luck!

  • I would go ahead and call.   Like the pp's have said, it will take a couple of weeks (maybe more) to get in.  So sorry, I know how hard it is.  Good luck!

  • Personally I'd go ahead and call. Bailey has tubes and got them at 8 months old. Bryce is now on his 3rd antibotic in the last month and half for ear infections. We go back next wednesday for recheck if not before. If they are not better we're going to the ENT. I refuse to wait months like I did with Bailey and our pedi agrees. I would go ahead and call the ENT to set up an appt for him.
