What water table do you have?

I want to buy Cooper a water table.  I don't want to spend $100, but I also kind of want something with a lid so that we can keep leaves and crap out of it.

Is that a big deal?  I can't seem to find any with covers, but I also think that we'd probably just dump the water out and refill it after we use it.

Re: What water table do you have?

  • We have this one, G loves it. I empty the water out of it after we're done using it so I've never had a problem with leaves etc in it.

  • We have this one. It has a cover, which is nice. But, the plugs aren't super tight so the water gradually leaks out. I am going to put a bead of clear caulk around the plugs this season. We'll still be able to drain the table by pulling the plug, but won't be able to take out the entire rubber plug device (if that makes any sense). Don't know if it's a problem with just our table or if it's common for this model.

We just received this one for C's birthday as a gift.  He loves it!

  • Based on how my kids play with it, I would not worry about a cover. The water gets all kinds of sand, grass and dirt from toys and boy hands in it. I like to start fresh each time. Water that sits stagnant, esp under a cover in the summer, sin't going to be for him anyway.

Haha...this was what I kind of realized this morning.  Last night I wanted a cover.  Today I realized that he'll just be drinking the water or putting the toys in his mouth so it won't matter - I'll need to clean it.

  • We have this one. It's held up since Reagan's 1st bday.

Yeah, Cameron is constantly back and forth from the sandbox to the water table, into the flower beds, etc.  He splashes, drinks, etc.

We also have the pirate ship one and he adores it!

DD got the same one for her bday this past weekend so we haven't put any water in it but it was a hit for the few days she just play around with it outside before we headed to Cali.

  • I saw one at Costco (249 just inside the door on the left) tonight for $48...I think it's the standard Step2 one. We have one though I'm not sure what it is since it's still in the box in the attic (A just hot it for Christmas).
  • ours is sand and water...  Who ever thought of that wasn't thinking...  We just fill it with sand OR water.  When we did 1/2 and 1/2 it was a mud table...

Ditto. Worst idea ever to have sand and water right next to each other like that. It's one or the other (usually water) for us.

  • I generally think anything with sand is a bad idea. It gets in their hair, clothes, the house and is impossible to get out. We followed the lead of a friend and put little pea gravel in the boys' sandbox. Soooo much easier and they still have as much fun digging. Also does not make mud.

  • we had the wheel one from step two as well. it's sitting downstairs waiting for summer right now.

and I emptied it every night, and if the water from the hose was too cold, I'd take a bucket from the tub or sink of warmer water and add it to the table.  it kept my little bird from getting too chilly too fast (if the sun wasn't baking us at the time).

    LOVE the water table.

Uh yeah...I would never do that.  :-)

  • We also have the combo sand/water table (https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3004163 ~ sorry, can't make it clicky).  It's a Step 2.  I probably would have gotten her one or the other, but my mom and dad had bought Char this one a year and a half ago when she was over at their house a lot more.  I just remembered recently that Mom still had it and asked her if we could take it.  Saved us $89!  So, I'm going to take what I can get for free and not worry about what I would have gotten.

This one is really cute and has a huge umbrella, plus a cover you can put over it. Right now, we just have sand in it...I've asked her if she wants water and she says no, so for now, it's only sand.  We may move to water in one side this summer.

Rayskit, I love the idea of pea gravel...wish I had thought of that before I went out and bought 3 50-lb bags of sand :)  Granted, they're only like $3.40/bag, so I could still get some pea gravel.  Great idea for later, though.
