Hi Ladies!
Sorry this is so late - Norah Harper is already almost a week old! It's been a hectic few days here, so here finally is the birth story, along with a few pics ![]()
I had been waiting on Wednesday, March 16th for the hospital to call me for my induction. They were too busy, so I had to wait. The hospital finally called me at 2pm on Thursday saying they had room for my induction and for us to be at the hospital for 3pm. So we got there, registered, and as we were walking into the maternity ward, they had to call us back and say that there was an emergency c-section, so we had to wait till 4pm. So we hung out for a bit, came back, and waited in the waiting room until just before 6pm!
Finally, the room was available. So I got hooked up to the induction IV, and we hung out in the L&D room. Nothing was happening for a bit, so DH decided to go and get some dinner and pick up clothes for overnight. Around 8:35pm, I felt this "pop" inside me....I was like WTF was that? LOL nothing gushed or anything. DH came back about 5 mins later, and I noticed I was starting to finally feel contractions - mild though. I felt like I had to go to the bathroom, so DH helped me with the IV, and as he was putting toilet paper down on the seat for me, I had water dripping down my legs....lol funny as hell cause it can't be stopped! LOL
Once that happened, the contractions started coming faster and stronger. The nurse came in and toned down the IV so the contractions would be 2 mins apart, not a minute like what was happening. She checked to see if it was my water that broke, but the swab was showing nothing. I'm like dude, it was my water...I had no control over it, and it didn't smell like pee!
So my contractions were spacing out a bit, between 1 1/2 minutes to 2 minutes, but they were getting stronger and stronger. I reminded the nurse I wanted an epidural. She was also busy with another woman who was almost ready to give birth, so I definitely wasn't getting the 1 on 1 attention....grrrr. She was in the other L&D room when i guess she could hear me and my whimpering, so she came over and FINALLY checked me (at this point, I still hadn't been checked for dilation since my appt. the week before with my OB). She was like....OH! You're now 8cm dilated! WOW! ......and all I can say is that I want drugs dammit....oh too late, you're too far dilated now. Are you *** kidding me??? Omg, I was super pissed. You guys don't even understand. If I wasn't dying in the middle of a contraction, I probably would have punched my nurse (even though, really, she was nice and all.....lol). I think this was about 10:30pm?
So I was feeling the urge to push, and the contractions were killing me.....and the nurse wouldn't let me start pushing yet cause the OB was still in the other room. I'm like, dude, how can you not push when your body is doing it anyways???? About 5 minutes later, the OB came in, and he said I was ready and could start pushing. And the entire time I was still freaking out about not having an epidural....lol. I did have laughing gas, which just made me super loopy. But still in pain!
Pushed through about 10 contractions I think (I can't remember....honestly I could barely focus and breathe, so who knows what exactly was happening. And at 10:52pm, our St. Patty's day baby was born!!!! I honestly didn't think she'd come on the 17th. When I started being induced, I was like, there is no way this is going to start and end within 6 hours. HA! Was I wrong....lol. It was a total of about 5.5 hours.....fast, but super painful. And I think I have about 7 stitches - 3 on the inside and 4 outside?
We weren't discharged from the hospital until Sunday night....Norah was slightly jaundiced, so we had to wait for tests, and she then had to be in the bili blankets for half of the day on Sunday. I'm so glad to be home ![]()
