Do you think he is sick?

So Gus has had 2 diarrhea diapers today and 1 yesterday. No fever at all, but he has been napping for 3 hours...he never does that. I am waiting for the docs call back, but what do you think?

Re: Do you think he is sick?

  • I think he has diarrhea and he's tired

  • DD did that a week or so ago.  The pedi told me there's nothing they can do for diarrhea/stomach bug but let it run its course.  They told me to make sure it didn't go longer than a week and to watch her for dehydration.

Didn't you post the other day that he was teething?

My sister swears that teething causes loose stools.  So maybe he is about to cut a tooth?

he is teething, but I have read that it doesn't cause loose stools...I don't know. At least there is no fever. Maybe he is just fighting something off
  • DS gets diarrhea from teething; a lot of extra drool and mucus can do that. Also, if Gus has tried anything new for food lately, his body could just be sorting out how to digest everything. My daycare provider doesn't get worried about weird bowel movements unless it's several in a row over a few hours with a temp because so many different things can be going on.

  • Ok, thanks! The Pedi called back and said to watch it, but to keep him hydrated and let him sleep ;) I am a worry wart, I know
  • J did this last week. But he was also extra cranky and his reflux was acting up.  I took him in because I thought it was an ear infection.

Doctor told me everything was fine, he was teething.

Then the next day he came down with the stomach bug and vomited for the next 36 hours. If it is the stomach bug there is nothing they can do, we ended up taking J back in because he was still throwing up 36 hours later, they gave us a fenergan suppository and Enfamil Nutrogenomin (or how ever it is spelled). It all started Thursday and Saturday afternoon we were finally able to get keep formula down.

You might want to go ahead and get some pedialyte incase he does start vomiting.

thank you...I will pick some up just in case!
  • I've also heard of diarrhea related to teething. Just make sure he doesn't spike a fever and his temperment still okay.

  • Yes, my sister's kids both got diarrhea when teething. My mom keeps asking me if Mac has had diarrhea yet. I don't think she'll believe he has teeth when he gets them if I don't tell her he had diarrhea first.
