Exposed...Sad and Sacred (vent)

I work in a hospital and was exposed to something nasty and contagious yesterday and didn't know it until right now.  Im 35w1d and freaking out.  I called OB and they said if i wore gloves and washed my hands I'm fine (which I did) But still, it makes my skin crawl and I'm really worried about LO.  I want him to be happy and healthy when he arrives.  Grrrr, makes me mad I was exposed and didn't know :(

  • I work in a hospital and am exposed to "nasty things" all the time. That's why we use universal precautions. Try not to worry too much- it's very unlikely that you'd contract anything if you wore gloves and washed your hands (unless it was an airborn pathogen or something). What were you exposed to?

  • I work in a hospital too and had spoken with a patient (wearing a regular mask and gloves) who they later thought could have TB (which you are supposed to wear a special mask for). Luckily a regular mask is still highly effective, and he didn't end up having TB, but I was a little nervous too. I also recently got an e-mail that one of my patients had scabies, but luckily I had no direct contact with her and was not at risk for that.  Like pp said - it's part of the job we do working in a hospital, and there are precautions there to protect us (which is why it is so important to follow them).
  • You work in a hospital and are surprised that you were exposed to something nasty?

Like pp said, that is what universal precautions are for. Hope you followed 'em.
