Relactation after 6 wks off?

Well call me crazy, but I thought I was done w/this board! I have 6.5 month old DD, I quit nursing at 5 months b/c my supply sucked and one boob was quite a dud! Well I missed it but figured it was for the best and I would probably just want to quit soon again anyhow. So. This is my last baby, I miss it terribly and even if I don't get the 6-8 oz for a regular feeding, I would love to have something to freeze for her sippy cup!

Anyone relactate WITHOUT medication? What was your experience and did you EP or did your child relatch? So far no teeth so I am optimistic but ok with pumping if I have to. And feel free to add anything else. TIA!

  • I only used natural methods. I used Fenugreek, mother's milk, oatmeal, insane amount of pumping, etc. You can do it. I honestly would love to get DD back on the breast. She's been done since 9.5 months. She's almost 15 months now. I'm actually starting pumping again tonight; I'll either give her the small amounts I get or donate them (I have a couple of friends who are due very soon and worried about supply. So I will hopefully have some donor milk if they want it.)

  • Sorry. When I relactated the first time, she was very young and we hadn't had a good latch to begin with. The best thing to do is just put her to the breast to see what she does. Try to get some milk going and pump every two hours. My DD did finally latch once the LC showed us how.

  • TY ladies! I slept on it and talked myself out of it a few times but after some much needed encouragement from my BF friend I started pumping this afternoon. I did not have help w/fenugreek but I am going to try Blessed Thistle this time. Once I commited to BF again I had this instant reconnection with my DD and I am excited!
I am not going to have her latch on till I have a bit of something for her to get out of it lol, she's a firecracker and won't tolerate waiting for food now that she has been given solids. I think that I will pump/nurse until she's at least 14 months and maybe donate my BM as well. I have been reading up on that and I think it is awesome women do that for little babies who really need it!
Thanks again girls, I really appreciate it :)
PS, I knew it was gonna happen but boy do my tah-tahs hurt!
  • Just realized it was one of you and not two of you lol, can I still claim "baby brain"?
