Hello! I am coming over from the November 2011 board to see if you ladies could help me out. I am 5wks pregnant with our 1st. I conceived on clomid and was given that because I have annovulatory PCOS. My current OB is seeing me at 8 weeks but only to get medical history, pap, etc. They do not look for a h/b until at least 12 weeks and do not do an ultrasound until at least 20 weeks. From what I understand, most women with PCOS get much earlier monitoring because of the very increased m/c rate. I wanted to see what other local OBs did with regards to the timeline of prenatal visits. I am currently going toTri-State OBGYN in Beaver and haven't been happy with them from the start. I have aetna insurance so if anyone by chance has aetna and would like to recommend their OB it would be very appreciated! Thanks so much ladies!

Re: Your prenatal visit timelines with your OB/recommendations
Here is my timeline... 1st visit at 6 weeks (due to history of m/c). My ob/gyn normally sees you around 7-8 weeks for 1st visit. They won't try the doppler until you are atleast 10 weeks. They see you every 4 weeks, then go to every 2 weeks to 1 time per week at the end.
For normal (non-risk pregnancies the only u/s is the anatomy scan at 20 weeks).
For my last full-term pregnancy we had a dating u/s at 6 weeks (Got pregnant immediately following m/c), the elective NT scan (12 weeks), and the antatomy scan at 20 weeks.
This pregnancy, u/s in ER at 5 weeks due to bleeding, u/s at 6 weeks for viability, anatomy scan next week.
I am not sure what the protocol is for women with PCOS, you can always inquire at other offices.
I have aetna insurance and goto the Bulesco grp in the South Hills.
Here is how both my prenatal visits went like with both babies:
-First visit around 8 weeks (monthly appointments thereafter)
-Doppler check for heartbeat at 12-13 weeks
-1st trimester screening (if you're doing genetic testing) 11-13 weeks
-anatomy scan 18-20 weeks
-glucose testing for gestastional diabetes 26-28 weeks
-bi-weekly appointments at 3rd trimester
-weekly appointments start 36 weeks
More than likely you'll only get 2 ultrasounds during the entire pregnancy. This past time I had 5 of them because we had some concerns, but everything turned out fine.
Good Luck!
