We live in an area w/population of approximately 120k. There are services for kids with special needs, so that's awesome. However, none of the movie theatres here do sensory friendly movie showings for kids on the spectrum, SPD, etc.
One day last week, I emailed the corporate office of a movie chain here in town and asked if this is something they might be willing to do (selfishly, I was hoping it would happen in time for us to take Will to see Cars 2).
Someone from the corporate office got back to me within two hours and said someone from the local theatre would be contacting me soon. Sure enough, I got a call the very next day from the local community outreach coordinator!!
So, I gave him the information for the organization we go through for EI therapy for Will, and also emailed the coordinator for this org. She just emailed me today and the theatre wants to do sensory friendly showings ON A MONTHLY BASIS!!
I'm absolutely dumbfounded. And the coordinator @ our EI office wants me to help her do the marketing. Yay!
Re: I did something awesome.
We watched Cars ad nauseaum for about a month.
Now he's moved on to Mater's Tall Tales.
I'm hoping he'll do okay with Cars 2 in the theatre!
